Welcome back.
This week we’ll be starting an entirely new painting. Sometimes you just need to shake things up. For this cycle I’ll be leaving temporarily the realm of landscape paintings for something a little different. The photo that I’ll be using is seen directly below. It is part of the grille of a 1949 Packard automobile.
Seen in a vintage illustration directly below is the entire vehicle showing the grille in
context. This particular design is interesting because it combines the narrow central Packard grille of earlier models with a wide lower grille typical of the late 40s. Separated by painted bodywork are the headlights, also a design throwback.
I have begun with those all-important first brushstrokes. Seen directly below is the current state of the painting.
That’s about it for now. Next week I’ll have more progress to show you. See you then. As always, feel free to add photos of your own work in the comments section below.
Earlier paintings in this series can be seen here.
Paint me a picture of your thoughts.
Boran2,
Great subject.
A very good friend of mine David Mann, (now deceased) was great at painting chrome, & the reflections on it.
I will scan a few tonight & post them here. It might give you some ideas.
He once told me that there were more colors in the chrome he painted than anything else.
He is mostly known for his motorcycle art, but was a great painter of surrealism, although now he`s simply a terrific surrealist.
RIP Dave
I give you a lot of credit for attempting a subject as difficult as this one under so many gazing eyes.
Then again, it’s a sign of your confidence in your abilities shining through.
Rock on! :o)
I’m counting on you to put me back on course if things go wrong. This is kind of your area of expertise, right? π
“This is kind of your area of expertise, right?“
I hope I never said anything like that because it surely isn’t something I do expertly :o) I’ve done something similar twice. The results were okay but certainly not expert.
I can’t wait to see next week’s results :o)
Co-sign. I just come by to “watch” since my artistic talent does not extend past stick figures. π
Hey there :o)
Some of the finest art I’ve ever seen is stick figures painted on desert cliffs and deep within European caves, so don’t sell yourself short :o)
A girl can aspire, can’t she? π
Agree w/ super and AP, and it’s going to be fun watching this one w/ the reflections.
