Also take chairs and water for the elderly and others in need to make sure they can stay in line.
Bring some for the election judges, too. You have no idea how grueling an election like this is for them. Most of them are older and retired. Even young people are surprised at the exhaustion level. The judges are there an hour before the polls open and at least two hours afterward, closing up. That’s a 16 hour day, assuming there are no miscounts. Recounting can go to 11:00PM and beyond. Then, two judges, one from each Party, have to deliver the ballots, ballot tape and sundry to the collection station. In a hot election, like 1992, there is not even time to eat lunch. If you bring doughnuts, DO NOT choose powder sugar. They will be munching with one hand and flipping pages in the registration lists with the other. So no messy goodies. Flavored water or Frappucino would be greatly appreciated.
Going to vote in two and a half or three hours during the morning lull. If there is no lull, well I’ve got all day to stand in line.
Voted at 10:00AM. The only lines were the lines waiting for the two voting machines. The seven stations for paper ballots were unoccupied. I asked for paper and immediately got to vote. Mostly Dem, but a few down-ticket races I voted Green because I knew the Dem was corrupt or incompetent (lots of that in Cook county IL). I was torn over Representative in Congress. Finally, I voted for Jill Morgenthaler, Rahm’s militarist puppet. There was no Green or other third party (I even would have voted Constitution Party in preference), but I just couldn’t vote for Roskam and I didn’t want to leave anything blank. I wanted to make sure that all races were covered to ensure that my Obama vote counted.
P.S. Forgot to add that the Judges said the morning was a madhouse. Must be going really crazy now at 5:00PM
I voted Friday – I’m still in Cinci on business
I’m back from voting in the New Kingstown, Pennsylvania, fire hall. Maybe 20 people were in line outside, but the lines moved quickly because the judges had two books, a-l and m-z. No problems to report
And for Obama and Gregoire.
I may not be too bright but I ain’t stupid.
a breeze. We’re rural.
