In what must be an all-time low for the blogosphere, a diarist at DK felt forced to drop one of Project Censored’s top 25 stories from the list.
In other words, the diarist not only helped censor the story, but helped censor the story about the inadequate reportage thereof.
Can things get any nuttier???
I’ll give you one guess as to the topic.
Yep, 9/11. Never mind that there are legitimate questions to be had. It’s considered a “conspiracy theory” and therefore has no place in DK discourse.
I think that’s frankly insane. The good thing about a site with so many people on it is that any faulty logic regarding such can be dissected and debated at great length in the comments.
There are a bunch of theories based on faulty data, and I deplore them as much as the next person. But when you censor a story which essentially says, a member of the Japanese parliament questioned the official story – you’re censoring not just 9/11 conspiracy theories, but any discussion of why such theories exist. In fact, you’re giving credence to the conspiracists, because if there’s nothing to hide, why the media silence on the issue?
I find it equally distressing when nutty people spout off things that they assume are facts, which are NOT facts, about 9/11. But please, PLEASE, can we someday have a sane, reasoned, factual conversation about these events?
Conspiracy theories are not the enemy. CENSORSHIP of discussions IS.
of self-righteous people who TR and remove dissenters.
I have been dumped from DK three times. No dissent from orthodox positions is tolerated. I’m not even much of a dissenter, but do have opinions about things which are not DK orthodoxy. So, I was pitched.
I just missed one of those posses tonight. I have never seen it so clearly demonstrated.
There are posses of many types on DK.
That’s a great unintentional self-parody of dailyKos. It reminds me of why I left that site once I discovered this place.
Thanks Lisa, for a bit of much-needed amusement
I followed the link to the censored story. It is about a member of the Japanese parliament questioning the war on terror in “a parliament Defense and Foreign Affairs Committee session held to debate the ethics of renewing Japan’s “anti-terror law”. Thus, this is a completely legitimate news item. That Kos didn’t intervene in what plainly is (completely idiotic) censorship lowers his credibility.
In addition, the same member of parliament also introduced some “conspiracy theories” about 9/11. Even if one dismisses those theories, that they were raised “in a parliamentary debate broadcast nationwide on NHK” is newsworthy in itself. Also newsworthy is how the government forced the renew-Japan’s-participation-in-GWOT bill down parliament’s throat despite a veto by the upper house—”the first time in half a century that a Japanese government has resorted to such tactics”—in response to US pressure.
Considering that all these wars all those kossacks are sooooooo opposed to all stem from 911, and that no real investigation has ever been done, and that there are real legitimate questions about the events of that dark day, one can only look with shock and awe at the neo-con koolaid drinkers posing as liberals which comprise the denizens of the great liberal blogosphere.
g.
There should be nothing wrong with calling for a new investigation, too, when the report was written by Zelikow, who incorrectly transcribed/reported on the Kennedy tapes in the Cuban Missile Crisis!
Good on you for blogging on this.
I saw the story on the rec list over there, and thought to myself, ‘huh, wonder how long before that person gets kicked out.’
What’s the reason they give? They don’t want to look bad or illegitimate or something? Of course, censorship looks great…
What’s quite interesting is that way back in the “old days” of DKos, basically when the site was still slow enough on the weekend that you’d have essentially long conversations with whoever was online, a certain future Frog Pond Creator (aka Boo) used to write what, for lack of a better term, I’d call “conspiracy” diaries.
Just stuff inquiring into the official story behind lots of stuff (as well as informative as hell about the Church Committee, which I’d never heard of). I thought it was darn good reading and Boo was one of the few people I had “subscribed” to.
Then he started this site and invited me to come check it out, which I did and have been here happily ever since š
So that’s how I got here. As for enforcing dogma and rigid group think over at Dkos, there are multiple and numerous instances of that but my own personal story is I more or less got run out on a rail after daring to question the official story of Srebrenica.
Of course it didn’t matter that I quoted actual Dutchbat officials AND the transcripts of the ICTY, the point is the damn official story is the damn official story! š
At DKos anyway, I’m always glad that Boo lets us kookier members run around without a leash š
Pax
At least someone remembers š
More than one….
Indeed.
Absolutely indeed, also.
š
sorry. Couldn’t think of anything better.
But I remembered too.
DK is what it is. This is just another example of why you shouldn’t get too involved with that site.
Did it get deleted? LMAO that would be funny and ironic.
