Reading articles like this is all part of the spoils of victory.
Down to 42 seats with two still at risk, Senate Republicans are in a deep funk. Some are in denial. Some want a return to conservative principles. Some want to cut deals. Some want more filibusters.
Others want to jump out a window — but they’re afraid they’d screw that up, too.
“We probably wouldn’t die,” a Republican Senate aide joked Wednesday. “We’d just lie there, hurt and suffering, which is not too much different from where we are now.”
Sometimes I feel the same way about the Democrats, but this helps me keep things in perspective.
It’s nothing that a little fearmongering or general bloviating won’t fix. In a few days, they’ll be back to their good old wingnutting ways.
TPM reports that Waxman ousted Dingell for Commerce Chair. Damn. That’s friggin huge, folks. Quite frankly, I didn’t think Waxman could pull it off. Not that I doubt his abilities at all–it’s just that I don’t doubt Dingell’s either.
We won’t get everything we want, but we will get some things.
And some of those things will be very, very, good.
This is one particular fruit of victory I’ve been wating for for a very long time!
Another piece fell into place to bring about “the change we need.”
It’s like watching the 1980’s in reverse.
I am soooo happy…
This is just so huge. It’s not that I don’t respect Dingell, because he’s done a lot of good work over the years. He would put the fear of God in Administration officials, so he knows oversight.
But these times require new vision, fresh blood and different leadership, and I think Waxman is simply better suited for the challenges. The climate is in crisis–the burning rivers from the seventies, IMO is global. The auto industry needs a kick in the behind. Waxman is an excellent choice for this role.
Politically speaking, again, this is so major. I didn’t think it could be done, to tell the truth. You gotta respect the skills–this definitely had the Speaker’s fingerprints all over it. Don’t mess with Pelosi.
But Palace Intrigue aside, I’m expecting great things.
Sometimes I feel the same way about the Democrats
The Democrats are doing quite well, when it comes to their own objectives. The goal of political actors is to gain and hold on to power: not to do good.
I would urge the righties to embrace conservative principles: jump out of that window and assume that the Invisible Hand will gently float you to the ground. I mean, you’ve been pushing the rest of us out the window for too long now — time to test your Randy faith on your own persons.
it would appear that not much is going to change on that side of the aisle since they kept mcconnell ans minority leader in the senate, and boehner in the house.
ergo: l see no change in their future, just more of the same old obstructionist policies and tactics.
