If they just could have used African Drums in their commercials, John McCain would be president-elect today.

What a fellatio-inspired gem of an article. I’m not sure which I appreciate more: that the reporter didn’t bother to explain why those mean Democrats would think putting “terrorist” and “Barack Hussein Obama” in the same sentence might be, um, racist as all hell; that Davis, as Liddy Dole’s ad guy, also produced the single most deceitful and dishonest campaign ad of the year (“There is no God”); or that the latter backfired. Badly.

The Umayid mosque, Damascus, Syria
This mosque was built in the year 705. Before that there was a church at the location, and for centuries it was used as both a church and a mosque until an Ottoman ruler decided for purely political reasons to make it a mosque only. Prior to being a church it was a tempt to the god Baal. People gather in this beautiful large courtyard with walls of amazing gold and green mosaic artwork. Children play there, and they especially appreciate the slippery marble floor.
This shrine of John the Baptist (Prophet Yehia) is inside the prayer area of the mosque
They say that the head of John the Baptist, revered in Islam as the Prophet Yehia, was discovered buried under the floor of the mosque, and his shrine is situation right in the middle of the prayer area. Thousands of pilgrims come here to visit the shrine.

View of the courtyard
This gives some idea of the size of the courtyard. The door on the left side of the opposite wall is the entrance to a shrine for Imam Hussein, the martyred grandson of Mohammad, and the son of `Ali Ibn Abi Taleb, Mohammad’s son-in-law, with whom Shi`a Islam began. The Mosque and the area around it are always full of Iranian pilgrims who have come to visit the shrine of Hussein. I went inside the shrine, but it was too crowded to get any decent photos. Hussein is deeply revered by both Sunnis and Shi`as, as is `Ali, though `Ali is more important to Shi`as.
This is a view looking outward of one of the entrances to the Mosque courtyard showing the arches and some of the amazing mosaic work.
Oh my God, that’s beautiful. Thank you for sharing your most amazing pictures.
Wow – thanks for the virtual tour – very fascinating and absolutely beautiful!
Beautiful pictures!
And I have to say “Heh!” in response to that Time piece as, when I was reading it, I remembered my Southern roommate back in college (He came from, hmm, Georgia, I think?) who once declared “Aw man, I love n**ers! They’re so cool!”
I’m sure McCain’s ad guy has precisely the same attitude! I’m not at all surprised he didn’t see anything racial about McCain’s campaign. A REAL reporter would have gotten a second opinion on that!
