I wonder if any bloggers are on Karl Rove’s Enemies List. I guess we’ll find out. If not, it will just prove once again that Rove wasn’t all that much of a Brain.

Peter Daou explains why.
Jesus Christ these people are delusional. Bush got a giant “do over” handed to him on 9/11 – the reset button was pushed and all of the partisanship fled the room. And instead of using that to mend fences and work forward, he used it as a club to beat Democrats with so that Republicans could sweep into power in the ’02 election. And again as another club so that he could keep his little fingers grasped around a job that he clearly didn’t want to do in the ’04 reelection cycle.
Whatever partisanship was there prior to 9/11 – most of which we can attribute quite nicely to Newton L. Gingrich and the rabble he swept into power with in 1992 – was utterly gone in those first few months post 9/11. A good president would have been able to use that to do great things. Bush used it to start a war in a country that didn’t attack us and to generally call Democrats names.
My only question is – does Rove really believe the shit he’s spewing in this instance? Normally if his lips are moving I assume it’s a lie, but I wouldn’t be surprised to find out he’s the dashing hero of his personal narrative. In his mind I’m sure that W just had a run of bad luck starting with the close race in 2000 and he’ll never acknowledge what a disaster his “50+1%” strategy for winning the White House was for everyone involved.
There was never any intention of using the pressing of the reset button on 9-11 to “mend fences and work forward”. All of that, and the smoke and mirrors of Bush’s “Compassionate Conservatism” was nothing but a feint to allow the MSM and the punditry to distract the American people from the real purpose of their plan for governance.
If anyone believes that this was not the whole and intended purpose of the core of the Bush administration from the beginning, then they are a fool. This, in conjunction with the full scale dismantling of any oversight or regulation which might impede the rapidly increasing transfer of wealth to the uppermost reaches of our elite business class is their life’s mission. It was the perfect storm they had awaited for more than a generation. And it is still their goal and will be their goal until they are all dead, buried and rotting in the ground. But even then, I fear, there will more just like them waiting in the wings to carry their banner. Because, as human beings, we will never be rid of our base characteristic emotions of greed, hatred and resentment. And these are the fuels which stoke the fire in their bellies. And we will likely never be rid of them.
