not to speculate on how the Blagojevich thing is going to impact Obama’s early administration.
If he or some of his little helpers are in any way involved, it will surface eventually. Time to cauterize and move on.
And if the whole thing is a Rat-backed Tricky Dick-type move…something that I often believe would well describe Patrick Fitzgerald’s last outing into semi-covert waters…then he had damned well better get a handle on it now. Swift boating is not just an electoral tactic, y’know. Look at what they did to Bill Clinton for all you need to know about that idea.
If you begin to see the usual suspects popping up..Rove, Dick Morris, Novak (although I guess he’s on cancer leave), etc…watch the fuck out!!!

It will have no impact at all. The noise machine will of course do its best, but there’s no there there. Obama has no motivation to take even the slightest risk to push for a particular replacement. What does he get out of it? If not for Blago, the replacement would certainly have been a Dem — that’s all Obama needed. This veers perilously close to agenda-driven concern trolling.
#1-There IS a “there there”. The noise machine isS the “there” in this equation. Hell…just look at the term “Swift Boating”. It worked, right? Was there any “there there” in the Small K kerry thing? Other than the fact that he was a mediocre politician with a weak, gold-digger’s kind of will? I think not.
#2-Get real. If even ordinary people are only about six degrees of separation away from one another, how much interconnectedness do you think exists in the high-powered, rotten-to-the-bone world of Illinois/Chicago politics?

Now…every powerful person needs hitters to protect his back. The secret lies in choosing the right ones. When Obama chose Emanuel, my very first thought was “UH oh!!! He’s got a nasty Illinois pol with deep Israeli ties standing right directly behind him.”
And brother, I do mean behind him.
I have lived in some pretty tough scenes…not as vicious as big-time politics, but often better armed and more immediately dangerous on a visceral level…and I am here to tell you that if I saw Rahm Emanuel or someone whose body language spoke the same phrases as does his walk into a room, I would be damned sure to keep at least my metaphorical chair turned in his direction for the duration of the time that he was there.
And get involved him on any level whatsoever?
Under absolutely no circumstances.
He’s got trouble written all over him.
