The new Congress is in session. You can watch along on CSPAN. Darth Vader is swearing the new Senate as we speak. Who are you excited to see entering the new Congress?

Sen. Byrd is in a wheelchair.
I was pretty pumped to see Jeff Merkley sworn in. It’s ironic that Cheney asked him if he would uphold the Constitution.
l heard from a friend that darth tried to make tim johnson [d-sd] raise his right hand during the swearing in. that true?
surely the bastard knows that the man can’t do because of his stroke…if so, cheney’s a sadistic motherfucker.
Not that Cheney isn’t a serious S/M freak or anything, but I can’t find anything about it..
guess l’ll have to watch the replay.
an aside: disabuse yourself of the notion that he’s a masochist:he’s into fucking w/ people. that’s his shtick.
Then what is the man-sized safe for? I had assumed it was converted into an iron maiden in which he sleeps.
I can’t do “excited” when it comes to Congress. That’s comparable to being excited about a pair of tighty-whities. I’m glad that there are more D’s and fewer R’s, but I’ll hold my excitement until I see universal healthcare passed or the Patriot Act repealed or Cheney drawn and quartered. Until then I’ll just call it potentially a better Congres than the previous Congress – we will see what the end shall be.
I admit that it was more exciting two years ago when we got to tear the gavels out of the GOP’s hands.
Very true – that was the silk boxers…lol
unfortunately shit-stained, when the leadership refused to keep their promises.
or should i say “blood stained” in recognition of all the troops that have died thanks to all those blank checks?
Self-asphyxiation is inadvisable. I’d be SHOCKED if Universal Health Care comes even close to passage, despite this crisis being the best opportunity in a long time.
Don’t forget Campaign Obama was for the status quo essentially, but with a mandate for parents to pay for children and attending onerous burden relief. I think the best we’ll get is some increased price negotiating power for existing programs and the expansion of said programs incrementally.
He’s into ‘see I told you so’ just now, so it’s going to be about greasing credit markets, middle-class tax cuts and credits for all, infrastructure projects and education investment, right? I am sure that’s enough for a first 100 days and would definitely be delayed endlessly if you chuck in Universal Health on top of it.
I wonder what percentage of the Congressional Dems actually support it. Maybe 40%? 60%? Anyone?
The House is voting for speaker now.
Expecting a surprise there?
I’m personally no fan of the Congressional Leadership and the Congressional Dems should realize that they need to ‘Change’ as well: a change of faces alone would boost Congress’ popularity by like 30 percentage points. Folks are soooo sick of Skeletor and the Uber-Wimp. Not that popularity matters more than anything else, but as time goes by, it’s absence will poison the ‘brand’.
Here’s a chestnut from one of the oldest, most evil banks ever:
I am a strong believer in the idea that at very least we manufactured the timing of this bubble burst with the intent to come out the other end with the rest of the world beaten and devastated, with most of their money invested in our Capital Class and our working class devastated and willing to work for next to nothing. An Ideal business climate! Why do I believe this? Because it’s what happened the last time we went through all of this: Winston Churchill stood in the NYSE gallery as the bell rang on the day that kicked off a week of selling that kicked off the Great Depression.
Bush to an aid, recently, ‘This sucker is coming down.’
For those who don’t know, Brown Brothers, Harriman has been behind some of the most large-scale evil we’ve known. They bankrolled Hitler in hopes of controlling trade between a German Empire and the Americas.
Oh, and it was a Bush (Prescott) in charge of releasing that FUCKING HORROR and it took an act of congress to make him stop trading with the enemy in 1942 and it’s evident that their Nazi banking continued at least until 1951 when they were order to stop managing money for a Nazi Baroness!
I wonder what Chris Dodd’s pop knew about all that jazz while campaigning against Prescott.
so gallup puts congress at 19 percent. well, after watching c-span coverage of the senate, NO WONDER!
one can get a great appreciation for classical music while waiting for the continuous quorum calls! what a bloody joke. there are probably better words than “joke” but i just don’t want to use any of them right now.
