OpenLeft’s Paul Rosenberg, who can be relied on to express “netroots” critique of Obama in the most fatuous possible terms explains here that by violating Harry Truman’s tough talking precepts Obama has ceded the initiative to the Republicans and lost “big time”. But Harry Truman’s failure to stop the Taft-Hartley act in Congress, was a disaster for America and the keystone victory of post-war corporate power. And Taft-Hartley was hardly the only victory of the resurgent right-wing under Truman’s presidency. The evident failure of Truman’s legislative efforts appears to make as little impression as the startling success of Obama’s first few weeks because the “old left” privileges talk over results and is utterly unwilling to let go of comfortable theories merely because they seem to contradict the facts.
