But just for the weekend. Taking the boy back to school. Yea! Road Trip! Too bad I’m an old fart and can’t do all the wild and crazy crap I used to do in my misbegotten youth. Hell, I can’t even remember most of it anymore. Alas. And Alack.
So use this as an open thread and, if you wish, relive and reminisce about your own glorious days of wildness on the road. Or keep talking about politics, the wingnut bizzaro world, Obama, Foreign Affairs (had any?) or whatever.
Oh, and someone tell BooMan I’m gone baby, gone. Until Monday, at least.
Have a good trip, Steven!
Second that thought, Steven. Come the end of the month I leave for Brighton, MA (from Syracuse, NY) and then return to Western MA for a conference and, then, a trip to California for an advanced workshop on Shamanism returning by way of Southern Arizona (deja vu experiment), New Mexico, Texas to Sarasota, Florida to see my daughter and her family. Back to Syracuse by way of Easton, Maryland to visit my brother and sister-in-law. Finally, returning to Syracuse, land of endless winter.
I am going to feel warm weather, smell the flowers and dwell for a time in the sun. Yeah, to the modern highway system.
Are you stopping in Sedona at all? Lots of shamanistic energy there..!
No, but I am trying to make it to Havasupai Falls near the Grand Canyon and the Cochise Monument in Southern Arizona. Should be quite an adventure.
Guess I’ve reached the time of life where a good nap is about as enjoyable as the taste of a fine wine. Enjoy your time with your son and remember that if you can recall the 60s, you probably weren’t experiencing them to the fullest;-)
It all depends upon your point of view and, of course, your overall health. I’m seventy-five last November and full of piss and vinegar. Find your path and follow it with everything you have.
Peace and joy!
I ♥ road trips!!
And I’m not too old for those – took one a couple of summers ago by myself, for a week, across the gorgeous and amazing Southwest. Met several cool people along the way, and saw some SPECTACULAR sites. Zion. Bryce Canyon (the road to which was animated in CARS based on a video taken along that route). Mesa Verde. Rocky Mountain National Park. The Grand Canyon. The big crater in Arizona. The Petrified Forest. Amazing places. What a gorgeous land we live in!!
me too, but l love crusin’ the 2 lanes. it’s a lot slower but you get a much better feel for the areas your passing thru.
best road trip l ever did was in the late 80’s. found myself unemployed and newly single so l took off north from colo to yellowstone, saw some friends in bozeman, mont, then up to glacier np, then into canada eastbound, thru winnipeg, across the northern shore of the great lakes, camped and fished a while in the thousand islands area, toronto, ottawa, montreal, then over to quebec city. came back into the u.s. thru the finger lake region of vermont, visited a friend in woodstock, vt., over and down thru maine and new hampshire to boston where l spent a week w/ a very dear friend in cambridge. across to chicago for some live blues, then st. louis and down thru the ozark region of missouri and arkansas…a real interesting part of the journey, btw…then visited some kin and old friends in kansas and home. left just after labor day and chased the autumn foliage and fruit stands with the fall crops all the way, got back just in time for thanksgiving…8000± miles later…met a lot of really interesting people and was totally recharged when l got back.
do it again in a heartbeat, probably take even longer and catch some places l missed.
That sounds like a great trip. I like the idea of following the fall and also ending up in Missouri and Arkansas. Always good to meet other knights and knightesses of the highway.
I’m taking a road trip at the end of the month. I’m taking my wildest friend to see a singer I’ve adored since high school.
Have fun Steven.
I used to drive from Jersey to Michigan’s upper peninsula and back a couple times a year, sometimes 24 hours straight through.
I remember doing push ups on the center line somewhere near Elmyra, NY at 2 am on Rt 17 to keep myself awake.
And tailgating semis to get a draft to get my MPGs up. They hate that BTW.
