I almost never look at Chuck Todd’s First Read but today, I did. And it cracked me up. Discussing the teabagging rallies that are going on today, they tried to come up with a positive angle.
With its association with these “tea party” protests, the Republican Party does stand to gain here in a mechanical/process way. If it gets a huge turnout nationwide, it will be a bit of a test run for its social networking apparatus. The Tax Day Tea Party Web site, in fact, is reminiscent of what the Obama campaign was able to do with things like voter registration and grassroots meet-ups. You can click on a state and find where there’s a local tea party in any state in the country. This kind of tech savvy could pay dividends in the long run.
Isn’t it a little late in the game for the GOP to be gaming basic social networking tools? It’s not tech-savvy to be mastering five-year old tools. But it’s something. The down side?
On the other hand, this whole thing could backfire if some unsavory elements (i.e., people saying and doing some very stupid things) attend these events.
What do you mean ‘if’?
Heh.
Protesting Obama’s lower taxes!
You’re doing it wrong!
has anyone spotted a person of color at one of these teabagging events yet?
Alan Keyes is supposed to speak at one, isn’t he?
… and yeah, I know. Still, you asked.
Alan Keyes is a space alien of color.
Alan Keyes is FAIL incarnate. Any event that allows him to speak is just mocking itself.
These protesters should have the courage to go through with it! Dump the teabags. Get arrested for littering (and creating a nuisance).
The funniest thing to me is that there are two competing sets of tea parties – the Tax Day Tea Party and the ones sponsored by Fox News. Wonkette reported on this yesterday. (damn that’s some awful writing there, but good snark.) Nice way to promote party unity.
there were a few black people at Philly’s teabag festival, which was very funny. the pictrues i got are a HOOT: i will upload later today.
How’s your pOrnstache?
that’s p0rnstache with a ZERO my friend, to ward off the spam that ineevitably followes that word.
it’s good by the way: phillybits ray got a good shot of gargling a teabag.
I dunno, it seems like it would be kind of hard to call something a test run for a “social networking apparatus” if the thing required several weeks of aggressive promotion and organizing by multiple right-wing cable tv networks to get off the ground, wouldn’t it?
The Republican new-media strategy is television.
