It is Earth Day.

Another strange confluence of random events, generated by random people on this planet has me vibrating with unsettled energy. Even my use of the word “random” is incomplete to my meaning, for my circle is proof positive that kindreds usually connect one way or another.

I spent the better part of the week thinking about Class War, humans degenerating to our basest natures and what it would take to awaken us to how to be in this world as part of the whole of it.

My mind buzzes around trying to work the layers of the personal/ego expectations with the geopolitical/economic and the humanity/morality aspects of everything that is going on. All at once. The intuitive flashes that are the knowing/unknowing swirl through my soul at unpredictable intervals.

I say things like “the center cannot hold” in my admittedly cryptic way. For someone who talks a lot, writes a lot, I apparently am very cryptic. Heh. To those who know me, or perhaps just know more, I always assume they dig the deeper part of this.

The big, bad scary isn’t just the shadow government, human abuses or economic failure.

Its simple, really. Human existence itself is no longer sustainable on a planetary level.

The rest is just mental masturbation trying to either make ourselves as comfortable as possible during these end times, or delude ourselves into thinking we can reverse the irreversible. More, it may be only the attempt to lie to ourselves and think we, as the enlightened will somehow survive this and create a better world.

Mathematically, scientifically, the odds are greatly against that.
As Elian said yesterday “Once your eyes are opened and you see this oil-slick we call our “culture” for what it actually is, you can’t decide to  un-see it.”

This passage from that essay is really what I have spent my lifetime undoing and unknowing:

In order for us to maintain our way of living, we must, in a broad sense, tell lies to each other, and especially to ourselves. It is not necessary that the lies be particularly believable. The lies act as barriers to truth. These barriers to truth are necessary because without them many deplorable acts would become impossibilities. Truth must at all costs be avoided. When we do allow self-evident truths to percolate past our defenses and into our consciousness, they are treated like so many hand grenades rolling across the dance floor of an improbably macabre party. We try to stay out of harm’s way, afraid they will go off, shatter our delusions, and leave us exposed to what we have done to the world and to ourselves, exposed as the hollow people we have become. And so we avoid these truths, these self-evident truths, and continue the dance of world destruction.

More than that, I refused always to repress the abilities of my childhood, though I have on occasion neglected them, allowed them to be silenced. The taboos of speaking to or of the non-empirical knowledge we carry in our genetics as both particle and energy beings has crippled us, isolated us. We deny ourselves our ordinary Godhood, crawl back into the cave and watch the shadow dance; ascribing our own better attributes to some imaginary being-god and wallow in our baseness and fear.

The only things worth actually knowing are in the silences. Not the silences of denial, but the silences of awareness.

So, what of this planet, our futures?

Will foreknowledge and intelligence alone be enough that we believe it is our evolutionary destiny to overcome the small-minded, fear/hateful and selfish of our population? One wold tend to think so, for evolution favors problem solvers. However, people who understand overpopulation tend to produce smaller families, and stupid people breed. A lot.

Cataclysms are random, they don’t differentiate. A tsunami takes out a whole region, and while a smarter person may go for high ground rather than run to the beach when the tide goes out 2 miles; it is as likely brute strength, the ability to hang on to a tree for hours that ensures one’s survival.

Surviving less cataclysmic stresses, like drought or crop failure is directly related to how well provided one is in assets to survive a long period of need. Are the wealthiest the “smartest” among the population, for they would surely survive this stress more readily. Or are they perhaps the least moral, the most cunning? An intelligent being without the stores of food and water, or the ability to travel to where those resources are, or the assets to trade may have a slightly higher chance of survival by being able to figure out how to adapt to environmental changes. It is equally likely the brutal would then just kill them and steal what they have accrued.

Is extraterrestrial intervention likely? Certainly, the mathematical probability says there are other stars with sustainable environments for life. While I actually believe there has been contact with this planet, or at least observation, there is nothing that indicates intervention to be true or likely.  If, in fact they ever did interact with us, as some ancient, advanced for interstellar travel society and were seen as Gods by our very limited society; they would have long given up on us for our insistence on hanging on to our brutal natures. Our refusal to be enlightened.

Which brings us to things like the pyramids, stonehenge, and the lores of many ancient societies. It also brings us to things like these, made by “ordinary” men in our times. (Or not so ordinary) They were unusually wealthy, and seemingly wise. Planned in the 60’s, unveiled in the 80’s and purportedly going to be used within 30 years of that date.

hmmmm. 2012, again?

LET THESE BE GUIDESTONES TO AN AGE OF REASON

Maintain humanity under 500,000,000 in perpetual balance with nature.

Guide reproduction wisely–improving fitness and diversity.

Unite humanity with a living new language.

Rule passion–faith–tradition–and all things with tempered reason.

Protect people and nations with fair laws and just courts.

Let all nations rule internally resolving external disputes in a world court.

Avoid petty laws and useless officials.

Balance personal rights with social duties.

Prize truth–beauty–love–seeking harmony with the infinite.

Be not a cancer on the earth–leave room for nature–leave room for nature.

Wow. What they said.

I want to live to see this come to fruition. I want all of you with me.

I am almost to the point of thinking my jest of a enclave/commune of my kindreds might be worth serious consideration. Gather the wise unto me and prepare, ya know? Insane or brilliant?

All these thoughts have come swirling down enmass on me, making nearly every other thing totally irrelevant by comparison. I cannot un-see it.

The center cannot hold.

But what if only the Stupid survive?

(**by “stupid” i mean only those who are cruel, employ the basest nature of greed and exploitation and would recreate the very things that will destroy humanity….)
