It’s gorgeous here — it’s already in the 60s! And the green is getting noticeable, though there’s nothing doing yet with either the beeches or the oaks.
Not able to do a dairy but wanted to give a little update. As if my life didn’t suck enough already, some jerk stole my glasses and I now have bronchitis and laryngitis. I am getting new glasses in a week but they are ugly as sin and will have lines in them instead of being the line less ones with extra coating and transition lenses like I had. LOL I guess beggars cannot be choosers. I am happy that MAP covered as much as they did and that my church(yes, I joined a church) was willing to pay the $100 needed. I just have to find reading glasses to wear for the next week so I can read and type. I am at the library now with the view zoomed in so far that people can read my info from across the room.
I am getting really frustrated with living this d@mn Chinese blessing/curse. I think I have had more than my fair share of the curse side. LOL
I hope everyone is doing great. I love you folks and miss you more than you know.
Hi RF … adding my delight at seeing you here and sadness that you’re difficulties don’t seem to be lessening. Sending caring thoughts your way. We miss you too.
Hi rf! Your troubles reminded me of an old favorite song:
Tis the song, the sigh of the weary,
Hard Times, hard times, come again no more
Many days you have lingered around my cabin door;
Oh hard times come again no more. Stephen Foster 1854
I wish better times for you, and soon! Its very good to “see” you!
Refinish! Thanks again for stopping by. Hope you’re able to return soon for responses.
I remember that in the early ’80s, British ‘welfare glasses’ supplied by the National Health were the coolest NYC style going. So hang on to those frames!
I’m adding into what everyone else has said. I really do hope things start to turn around for you. BTW with the glasses thing I know how it feels. I’m down to my last pair that was issued to me when I was in the military. Just to give you an idea, the nickname for this type of glasses was “BC glasses”, or birth control glasses. 🙂
These we flying around last night. I had to take this shot in very low light because any light started her flapping her wings (I’m assuming female from the size of the abdomen).
I’d say she’s about five inches long with a 7-8 inch wingspan.
I do hate hot weather but 80 is still on the cusp of being acceptable and besides it was the first really warm day this year so I’m still open-minded about them. By the end of today, I’ll be grumpy about the heat.
Also, I should mention the 30 mph wind Jim was riding into on my bike, but he thought the warm temperature was nice. Hmmm, for some reason, I feel like I’ve read a sentence like somewhere before.
Yesterday was too hot for me too, FM. I hate when my steering wheel burns my hands. But at least the humidity is still down and the mosquitoes aren’t out in force yet.
It’ll be bad by mid-May. We’ve actually had a cool (warm for you guys)beautiful spring. My favorite in the almost 8 years I’ve been here. And now that I’ve got a mountain retreat that I can use whenever I want, I’ll have a place to go when it gets bad.
I agree about the humidity and mosquitoes. I think out of the two though that I hate the humidity the worse. Of course being a Southerner now and acclimated to the weather, you should be used to it. 🙂
It was 85 here, and I was at a wedding shower where we were all melting and cheapo husband wouldn’t turn on the air for an jour to cool the house down.
The worst part was when I walked up to the house, and one of the 3 garage doors was left open so everyone could see his new Porsche boxster. The guy is so anal, normally every garage door would be closed (can’t have anything out of place, he was actually sweeping up with a dustpan and brush while the gift unwrapping was going on)…doesn’t he know that we know he’s a shitty husband, and no amount of metal in the garage will change that?
Um, please excuse my rant…Is everything in full bloom down there, or are you way ahead of us? We’ve gone from bare branches to green blossoms on everything in about 3 days.
I would have left. I went to a baby shower yesterday and on the way my mom said to me – “if there isn’t any air conditioning we are dropping our presents, making our excuses and leaving.” I was in full agreement. But it turned out to be almost too cold.
But if I were you I wouldn’t blame the cheapo husband I would blame the wife. She threw the shower, she invited you, she was responsible for the comfort of her guests including you. The fact that she has a difficult husband is her problem to work around – not yours. If she fails to work around it and you suffer discomfort, put the blame where it lays. Her.
Yeaaaaaah, I like that – blame the woman. Ahhhh, did I say that? Backtrack, backtrack – no I didn’t mean what I said or say what I meant. I think I’ll un-retire my helmet. 🙂
Yeah, we could go into the whole “but she chooses to stay with him” thing…and why some women think they need to be married or in a relationship to be of any value…and the way some people allow money to cloud their judgment…and wtf is wrong that she doesn’t know how to operate the thermostat…
but it’s been such a nice day out, and there’s a nice cedar planked salmon on my grill, and…
I left after an appropriate amount of time and went to the next party anyway. 🙂
The Common Grass blue, Zizina labradu. This is my first confirmed sighting of one on our property. They are small – about the width of my finger (or around 2/3 the size they appear in the thumbnail above). I’ve caught a glimpses of something blue-y flitting about before, but never got one to sit still, or better yet, pose for the camera.
The people who named the critters here were not very inventive.
The divided the most of the butterflies into “blues” or “browns”. Most of the blues are not all that blue (or not blue at all), and the browns are mostly orange with dark brown or black markings.
For example, the lyrically named “Common brown butterfly”, Heteronymphe meriope.
Good morning, Andi and FM!
The picture shows spring!
Seems like there was none…
We had a few snow flurries less than two weeks ago (as I recall) – and suddenly it is summer – 90+ here yesterday.
Good to see you. Yep it seems like summer has hit hard down here too. As SN was commenting yesterday, we’re lucky in one respect that the humidity here hasn’t hit yet.
Looks like another hot one for us, but still comfortably dry.
I googled a little and found this: A dew point of 35 °C (95 °F) was reported in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia at 3 p.m. July 8, 2003. The temperature was 42 °C (108 °F), resulting in an apparent temperature or heat index of 80 °C (176 °F).
Even you southerners have nothing to complain about…
Our dew point today will be between 49 and 54, thus: 50 – 54°F Very comfortable (same source).
Well not quite as exciting as the first time then but I imagine going after 4 years is still pretty exciting. And as always, I sure hope you’ll have time and bandwidth for picture-posting.
Ah well, I need to go get ready for my trip today.
Heh, thinking up meals is the bane of my existence.
OMG, spring is so totally here…and my sinuses know it. I’m ready for the end of June, when all this blooming calms down and I can breathe normally again.
People are turning on their A/C here. We have the best ceiling fan in the whole wide world, so we don’t have to, but it’s actually hot here already this morning. Hard to get used to after needing the heater last week.
It was really warm here yesterday (today) too but it’s hugely windy (gusts up to 40mph) so that cut the heat down a good bit. And the cool down starts tomorrow to get to a much more pleasant low 70s.
I don’t know if the pollen has cut down here, but I do know the pollen from the pine trees has just about stopped. It’s bad when you look outside and see a yellow haze from all that pollen.
How is everyone this morning?
It’s gorgeous here — it’s already in the 60s! And the green is getting noticeable, though there’s nothing doing yet with either the beeches or the oaks.
Our grass is greening up … 🙂
Morning CG, Andi.
The theme is Random so you’ve got no excuses for not coming on over here and posting.
Or I guess if you’re a better excuse maker than I imagined, you can just look.
Cool!

Oh RF, I am so sorry. I hate for you to have even more problems. I’m glad, though, that you continue to find places and people who are helpful.
RF, I’m so sorry. what a pain in the ass.
I hope things get better for you soon.
Hey RF, not much I can say but that it’s good to hear from you, even if the news is bad.
You’re in our thoughts.
Hi RF … adding my delight at seeing you here and sadness that you’re difficulties don’t seem to be lessening. Sending caring thoughts your way. We miss you too.

Hi RF. Someone stealing your glasses really sucks especially on top of being sick. Hang in there. Thanks for checking in.
Refinish! Thanks again for stopping by. Hope you’re able to return soon for responses.

Hi RF,

I’m down to my last pair that was issued to me when I was in the military. Just to give you an idea, the nickname for this type of glasses was “BC glasses”, or birth control glasses. 🙂
It’s good to hear from you RF and take care.
Is that because they made you look like a dork, or because they improved your vision so much that all of the women looked hideous?
Hi SN,
Since all women are beautiful (notice how I steered myself around that one), of course they make me look more dorky than usual. 😛
These we flying around last night. I had to take this shot in very low light because any light started her flapping her wings (I’m assuming female from the size of the abdomen).
I’d say she’s about five inches long with a 7-8 inch wingspan.
What an interesting critter!
Wow, they do grow ’em big down there. I think I prefer the nano-mothras we have around here.
We do have large moths, but this one was so big it was actually disturbing to hold.
This one is my favorite of the larger species.
I’ve narrowed it down to a swift or ghost (HEPIALIDAE), or goat (COSSIDAE) moth, but have yet to find the exact species.
Imogen says to say that, “she can’t figure out what moth it is and it’s driving her crazy”.
Which, given that I’ve long been crazy, is not much of a concern.
Yikes, I thought it was a bat in the thumbnail.
Get that together with your big bug and we can make our own cheesy monster movie. 🙂
Ooooo, what big bug?
The mosquito that she put up in dog blogging.
My you are up late.
Ah, the mosquito hawk; a mosquito eater and thus my good friend.
Yep. We’re just off to bed now.
Good morning everyone! It looks like an outdoor day here, sunny and a high temp around 80.
It’s bedtime here, and it’s just started raining again. Rain on the roof has long been my favorite sound to fall asleep by.
‘Night all.
It was 80 yesterday. I was hot. I sweated. The dogs panted. And it was good.
Good morning Andi.
I thought you hated hot weather. It was almost up to 90 here, and I know I hate hot weather.
Notice how Andi didn’t mention the 30 mph wind I was riding into on my bike, but the warm temperature was nice.
Hi Jim,
But when you came back, didn’t the wind help at all? 🙂
Heartless. Just heartless not to mention you pain and suffering. 🙂
I’m already grumpy about the heat and it’s only April. God help me when it get to July and August.
30 mph wind – heartless, heartless woman you are Andi. 🙂
Yesterday was too hot for me too, FM. I hate when my steering wheel burns my hands. But at least the humidity is still down and the mosquitoes aren’t out in force yet.
And how long do you have before those the humidity and mosquitoes show up — about 6 hours? 😉
It’ll be bad by mid-May. We’ve actually had a cool (warm for you guys)beautiful spring. My favorite in the almost 8 years I’ve been here. And now that I’ve got a mountain retreat that I can use whenever I want, I’ll have a place to go when it gets bad.
Oh it will be really nice to have the place to escape the heat and city. I will never poo-poo facebook again.
Morning SN,
I agree about the humidity and mosquitoes. I think out of the two though that I hate the humidity the worse. Of course being a Southerner now and acclimated to the weather, you should be used to it. 🙂
A Southerner? You really know how to hurt a girl, don’t you. And I was being all nice and everything.
When aren’t you nice SN? 😉
When you cross me, FM. By calling me a Southerner…or taking the last Klondike bar.
I am most definitely humbled. ;O)
Being heartless is a key component of my adorable charm.
So that’s what it is huh. 🙂
It was 85 here, and I was at a wedding shower where we were all melting and cheapo husband wouldn’t turn on the air for an jour to cool the house down.
It’s another gorgeous sunny day here today.
Morning CG,
I’ve got a brother just like that. It seems like when you’re at his house you either burn up during the summer or freeze during the winter.
You know what’s worse than having an ex-husband? Have two of them. I’m just sayin…
Hmm…I bet the ‘fun’ never ends with that.
It’s hard to believe someone that had a Porsche in the garage would be cheap with cooling their house. I wonder if they buy generic cereal. 🙂
Things have been green here for awhile. I think we’re coming up on the sixth time the lawn has to be mowed.
The Porsche was bought with the home equity line of credit last month…just sayin’.
We’ve got like 3 or 4 Porsches. ‘Course they say Hotwheels on the bottom.
I think you should paint them.
Something appropriate for a child’s room. Be that child 4 or 40.
Yeaaaaaah, I like that – blame the woman. Ahhhh, did I say that? Backtrack, backtrack – no I didn’t mean what I said or say what I meant. I think I’ll un-retire my helmet. 🙂
Better get your helmet out 🙂
I’m tearing up the room now searching for it. 🙂
God, I love you for saying that maryb. I was starting to relive all my encounters with power-trippers.
There’s just something about Porches.
That’s the CG I know 🙂
Gotta go, it’s nap time.
Everybody have a good day!
Have a good nap. FM! (Wait a minute, aren’t all naps good?)
Hi everybody!
This is most likely a male.
Seems they are not so common after all. He matches my living room, handsome fella.
Nice color for a living room.
(This one is a female.)
I’d like to have something that attractive commonly show up at my house.
Jim is very attractive and he doesn’t need those showy eye-wings…
lol.
We do get tons of these. The males first, then the females about a month later.
While the males are here the cool shady places on the property literally swarm with them.
You just never know when someone will need to take a moment to admire the size of his shadow.
and leaving a gorgeous spring really beginning to show it’s stuff. 🙁

Good morning Andi.
Lovely picture and it looks like spring is finally arriving at your place.
As usual I’m clueless, so what does BCROD mean?
And looks … it’s a pond. 🙂
BCROD=Beige Conference Room of Death.
Shows you how out of touch I’ve been. BCROD should have been burned into my brain. 🙂
A pond? Since we don’t want to inundate the site with pond pictures, I guess yours will have to do. 😛
You can inundate YOUR site with pond pictures — see, easy peasy solution. 😛 back
Good morning, Andi and FM!
The picture shows spring!
Seems like there was none…

Good to see you. Yep it seems like summer has hit hard down here too. As SN was commenting yesterday, we’re lucky in one respect that the humidity here hasn’t hit yet.

Our dew point today will be between 49 and 54, thus: 50 – 54°F Very comfortable (same source).
Yep I agree, but even if it was one degree off the perfect temperature, I’m sure I’d still complain. 🙂
Glad your temps will be comfortable today.
Spring is definitely here. Things really started greening up over the weekend.
Hope all is well with you.
Just in a bit of lurker mode/mood lately. Thanks.
Yes, green explosion in Central Park over the weekend.
Do you have a trip to Norway with the kids planned for over the summer?
Can’t do without…
We’re planning for the usual summer cabin stay. curly will come for some of the time
Is this the first time curly has gone?
No – she came in 2004 and 2005 as well (and had been to Norway before, back in her college days).
Well not quite as exciting as the first time then but I imagine going after 4 years is still pretty exciting. And as always, I sure hope you’ll have time and bandwidth for picture-posting.
Ah well, I need to go get ready for my trip today.
See ya (I hope) later.
Aren’t you supposed to pretend to be excited to head off to the BCROD for Jim’s benefit? 🙂
We are excited — it means we had to think of four fewer meals this week. ;P
Did spring show up at your place this weekend? It sure did at ours.

Morning CG,
Hot there already? Gosh what’s going on?
I don’t know if the pollen has cut down here, but I do know the pollen from the pine trees has just about stopped. It’s bad when you look outside and see a yellow haze from all that pollen.
We usually get some weird 90+ temps in April.
My car is covered with a light green dusting of pollen today. ick.
Good morning all! It’s beautiful here!
We call this the “puddle bunny” pose, because our rabbits seem to melt into a puddle from the heat of the woodstove.
What a great pair of pics — a really cheerful counterbalance to my all-day meeting.
