We have now had a record-breaking 18 hours without rain. It must be a drought.
CBtE is off to his first day of his first job this morning (he got 2 for the summer: Zumiez and Taco Bell). This should be interesting. 🙂
It appears that CBtY will be taking over CBtE’s lawn mowing job, so I guess they both have summer jobs. And I have a writing sampl I need to do tonight for a possible job for myself. Maybe we’re starting a new trend here?
What’s everyone else up to this week?
My advice for the writing: don’t forget to put the “E” at the end of “sample” 🙂
What is Zumiez?
Zumiez = Skater clothing and snowboarding clothes and gear. His dream job…
I’ll try to remember how to spell sample…I would like to at least make it to the interview stage before they dump me. 🙂
Back in Raleigh?
Yep, back in Raleigh and expecting sunny and hot again. It’ll be pretty steadily in the 90s from now until late September. Cleveland weather was gorgeous, but the mosquitoes feasted on me in the evenings.
The mosquitoes are bad here too, what with the endless rain and all.
Any more trips in your future this summer?
lol!
It rained twice here yesterday. Right now it’s so dark that it looks like evening is coming on. More rain is coming.
It’s dimming here too, but I at least got out and saw the big orange ball again this morning. I’m happy not to have to run the a/c, but does it have to rain all the time?
Good luck with the writing sample.
That is such an ENERGETIC first post, I feel like I need to go out and get a second job. 🙂
But not fast food – the smell of the uniform …. ugh. I remember it well.
IDtE worked in a fast food kitchen all through high school and would come home reeking of fryer grease at the end of each shift. Yuk!
I sometimes worked after school at a country cookin’ place washing dishes and would therefore arrive home reeking of meat loaf and mashed potatoes.
I worked at Ponderosa Steak House when I was in high school. Between the steak grill and the salad bar fixings – it was pretty disgusting.
Awesome photo today.
Seconded! But what are those weird ray things?
Fly-by hi to everyone here. I’m going outside!
I figured it was one from the Brown County X-Files. Very nice whatever the origin.
You win it in one. 🙂
I hope outside treated you well — or are you getting the constant rain too?
Day 2 on the job for CBtE. He seems to like it, thinks the people he’s working with are nice, and is happy to be working everyday from 10 to 2.
I’m loving that both boys are finding something other than the computer to fill their days with. CBtY did a much-needed cleanout of his room yesterday with no urging…it must b the boredom kicking in. 🙂
How is everyone this morning? We’re on Day 2 of no rain. who would have believed it could happen?
10 to 2, gotta love those hours. That would be a perfect job for me! 😉
I used to love working 10-2. You never have to get up early but you’re finished early enough to go to the pool or do other summer things. And you have evenings free.
We haven’t had rain since Saturday but it has been VERY hot (upper 90s) and VERY humid so the heat index is through the roof. So be careful what you wish for.
I need a drink or nine
So early?
yes.
Don’t have a full bar at work so this was all I had on hand. Don’t drink it too fast 🙂
my how the tables have turned, you’re bartending for me now! 😉
Ill have what Manny’s having.
How about a Mojito? I made two – but I don’t want to be a two-fisted drinker so I’ll share. 🙂
Okay, but I think we need some ceviche to go with it.
Oh YUM!
Let’s eat it overlooking the water. That should really improve Manny’s mood. Lots of room for a party.

as long as I can preserve the air-conditioned bubble I’ve employed around my being! Triple digits have arrived, which means I need to say extra prayers to San Juan Batista tomorrow at the fiesta to invoke the monsoon.
Well I would try to use my powers to help you but the heat index here today was 107. If it’s going to feel like 107 I’d rather it feel like a dry 107 rather than a sauna that’s 107.
But the location for our drinks has a NICE OCEAN breeze 🙂
it rained good and hard the last time you utilized your powers, so i shall never doubt your powers of persuasion 😉
ocean breeze works as long as i’m in the shade. my built-in tan would be energized otherwise jejeje
I have 60F inside the house. If only we could split the difference. Drink lots of margaritas!
i’ll meet you at the Equator 😉
margaritas: yes, please!
oh, my. [saliva emits]
Ahem, I think you owe me a recipe in exchange for one of mine that you utilized recently 😉
Mary’s already done the booze so you don’t need that but I can always do the traditional bartender function of a shoulder to cry on.
I would have offered but I’m wearing dry-clean only today.
I would never subject you to such inanity, though will say that as a former Eagle Scout, a good hike always perks me up 😉
I’d love to have you show up at my place and come for a hike with me and the dogs.
Also, we guarantee
belly bombsfried biscuits and homemade cheesecake to lure certain valued visitors. Um, speaking of which, I think I still owe maryb2004 her cheesecake.mmm cheesecake.
I need to win the lottery so I can be there stat…
No, no. We have to win the lottery — it’s our retirement plan. But when we do, we’ll pay for everybody to come a big meetup at our place. 🙂
I just can’t resist letting the Smokies do the humpy-bumps. They do them so very, very well.

Good morning!
Love a vista like that!
Then the Smokies are the place for you! And that’s one of the easiest views to get to — it’s right on the road at a place called Newfound Gap, which was the low point the original settlers found to get across from what is now North Carolina to what is now Tennessee.
I definitely have a lot of exploring left to do in this country. Most vacation time (and budget) goes to our annual trip to Norway. But when the last one is out of the nest in 3 years time…
But when the last one is out of the nest in 3 years time…
… I’ll be glad to suggest some itineraries. 🙂
Much appreciated. I did a lot of hiking in younger years and having seen yours and Jim’s photos over the last few years gives inspiration to get back into it.
And speaking of hiking, the dogs just informed me, it’s time to go.
Hope you have a good (and rainless) day.
I’ll have to check this photo later. 🙁
Oh, gosh. What a beautiful, beautiful photo.
Love the mountains! Love the mountains! Love love love the mountains!
Thanks, Andi.
And yes, we’ve had lots & lots of rain. We’ve had a few breaks here & there. We’re getting one now. Ergo this is another fly-by. Still trying to build this darn screen-house.
Thanks again for the image! Do you have an OL album link? (she asked greedily).
I’d hope you love mountains ’cause you’ve got some lovely ones right there.
And we’re working on the album. I’ll give ya the link as soon as they’re uploaded.
Now that I can see it, great panoramic shot! There’s going to be an album?
We always put a set of photos from our vacations online — well always starting in 2003.
Are they at flickr?
No they’re on Jim’s old mac site.
But this year we’ll put them on his new MobileMe site.
My lovely mountains: yep, they’re the same ones as yours. I’m just in a different location.
🙂
Can’t wait for the link. Yippee!
You inspired us to get going so we’ve got them picked out. Now all we need to do is to get them uploaded, captioned, and organized. So check back for a link in a day or two. 🙂
I’m more than glad to be of help.
😉
I left you a link over in the FFF.
Good thing we’re up on the hill and not down in the valley, ‘cuz if it keeps raining like this the flatlanders are gonna get flooded.
Our pond is full to overflowing – and the duckies are very happily wading around in the overflow.
Me? I’m trapped in the house with yo-yo dogs. They’re in, they’re out. They’re in (and needing toweling), and then they want out again.
It’s not fair, is it? You should get to be delighted to see the drought ended and instead it goes to such extremes that you have to hate it. Last year here, the 500-year flood was followed by a mini-drought from mid-July to early October.
We still don’t have decent levels in the dam catchments that supply the states Hydro-electric generators. Which means we have to buy energy from the brown coal generators on the mainland (there’s a recently commissioned undersea cable the was touted as a way for Tasmania to sell its clean energy to the mainland, but the power keeps coming the other way round).
At least we’re greening up and the trees will likely last another year as a result (we lost at least six big ones this last year, and another half dozen looked really stressed). We’ve seen lots more wildlife around the house as well, so the critters are clearly happier. Some of them happier than others.
For the sake of clean power, then, I guess I hope it keeps raining (but doesn’t flood) — even if it means you have to wash a lot of towels.
I’d love to see some video of wallabies with a buzz on.
We’re used to roads flooding. Historically most towns in Tasmania were set along river banks, and the main population centers are still mostly low-lying.
Sorry, no videos of wobbly wallaby crop-circles.
Wow, legal opium poppy fields? And stoned-out wallabies? Who knew? 🙂
Good morning everybody! Dry day today, but we did have a misting drizzle yesterday.
It’s another hot and humid day here — which is why I’m about to head off with dogs.
See ya later.
Another article about the High Hoppers.
Ah well, maybe someday that farmer will get inspired.
Drive by good morning all. More rain possible here, like the last 21 out of 24 days.
This Week’s Theme: Flowers. What’s blooming in your world?
You can petal on over to the diary right now.
