Pity the poor millionaires.
My favorite line: “The ABA announced Friday it had formed a coalition – called Americans Against Food Taxes – to oppose the soda tax.” Wow, I wasn’t aware that obesity and diabetes (among other things) were the result of partaking in a major food group. Are there in fact minimum daily requirements for Coke, Pepsi and Jolt products?
Let me guess: members of the Americans Against Food Taxes include the corporate bigwigs at Coca-Cola, Pespsico, Kraft, General Mills, etc.
I was commenting on the self-creating snark of having “food” and “soda” in the same sentence. But your comment goes straight to the heart of the matter.
Yep, the manufacturers of what should rightly be referred to as “edible food-like substances”…which is not food as we would prefer to know it. 🙂
Why not a financial services tax? Put the heat on Wall Street for a change? Every share that gets traded has a tax of a dollar per share. It would raise millions, even in a highly regulated market, which we won’t have.

(AP) Asked if he would vote for her if she ran for president, Johnston said: “I think she’s a great lady, but after seeing what she did now, you know, leaving Alaska, I would have to say, ‘no.’ Obviously she’s stressed out as governor. I mean moving up to the vice president or president is huge. I just don’t think anymore that she’s cut out for the job.”
Johnston is pursuing his own book deal and movie deal while working as a carpenter.
