I’m sitting in the big hall at Netroots Nation waiting for Bill Clinton to arrive. Adam Bonin is doing a great job of entertaining the crowd. He’s introducing Rep. Brad Miller (D-NC). Brad Miller, you may remember, has a history with Booman Tribune. This is from the Las Vegas Yearly Kos:
The funniest thing that happened at the conference was in the Blog Theory panel that Chris [Bowers] moderated. Some people saw CabinGirl and me on C-SPAN2 and sent me a note about it. Then I said we were trying to figure out a good way to heckle the panel. Omir the Storyteller suggested that I open Word, and type ‘Smile, if you are not wearing underpants’ in a huge font and turn around my laptop so the panel could read it. Since Tim Tagaris was so nervous that he was shaking the whole table, I decided it might lighten his mood. So, I followed Omir’s advice. The only problem was the Tim wouldn’t look at me. Then I noticed Rep. Brad Miller squinting to read my monitor, then a look of shock overtook his face. Pretty funny.
I now know that Brad Miller thought I was pointing the monitor at Ali Savino, which makes the whole story quite a bit funnier.
Good Times.
Bill Clinton is speaking now and I think you can watch it live on CSPAN.
Bill Clinton is talking mainly right now about his post-presidential career working with NGO’s.
Now he has transitioned to talk about how important politics and policy are. He’s talking about foreclosures, health care, and environmental policy/Copenhagen.
Talking about Hillary Clinton’s visit to Congo and Liberia.
“We have entered a new age of progressive politics, which if we do it right could last 20 or 30 years.”
Clinton says, “Bush v. Gore was one of the five worst Supreme Court rulings of all time.” Gets standing ovation.
I think Clinton has begun to get over the primaries and to internalize the true conditions of this country. He seems to get it.
he’s talking about how we have become self-consciously communitarian. Interesting take.
What did the heckler yell?
he was mad about Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. Great response by Clinton whether you agree with it or not.
Fascinating discussion of the history of DOMA and DADT prompted by heckler.
wow, he’s still talking.
You’re surprised? This is Bill Clinton we’re talking about.
What was the length of his marathon state of the union speeches?
That guy loves a microphone. Something looks weird about his jaw. I guess I haven’t seen him speak in a while.
He wasn’t as fiery as he can be. He seemed under the weather (I can sympathize). But some good points.
I had the pleasure of chatting briefly with BooMan tonight.
Here’s Bill Clinton:
cool. I wish I watched more of it on C-SPAN so I could look for familiar faces.
Here’s Dean:
I’m really sorry that I’m not there to see you again. Have a great time!
It’s not too late. Grab a flight today!
where are you, boran2?
Coming down to room b now.
