I am so sick of reading about health care that I just want to concentrate on the NFL or something. Brett Favre sure looks funny in purple, don’t you think? And Terrell Owens in Buffalo? How’s that going to work out?

radio program “As It Happens” the other day they addressed Favre’s umpteenth unretirement. The best question they raised is how “Favre” can be pronounced “Farve” instead of “Fahv-ra”.
I used to ask the same question.,,several decades ago.
meh, the cdns should talk.
patrick roy, when he played for the avs here, raised holy hell over the pronunciation of his name…“wah”.
whatever, eh.
We oughtta build a wall up there.
Favre — doesn’t have much left, but the Vikings other QBs aren’t impressive. It’s simple math: there are 32 teams and a much smaller number of quarterbacks who can take a team to the playoffs.
Owens — horrible call by the Bills. He’s capable of playing well when he wants to, but he’s 100% cancer in the locker room. Me, Me, Me, Me, Me, Me… did I mention Me? It’s the QB’s fault for not getting him the ball enough.
T.O. usually makes a positive contribution in his first year with a new team and then wears out his welcome shortly thereafter.
And Buffalo only signed him for one year.
How about reading about what really happened at Lockerbie? See my article at Consortium News, which was also featured in Common Dreams:

Excellent article.
And don’t forget Monzer al-Kassar and his role with the PLFP-GC, Abu Abbas and Ollie North.
heard on bbc news that al-m claims he can prove his innocence. maybe some new interesting info will turn up
six million dollars in guaranteed money to at minimum get on a private jet throw a football on a Friday Night and try to make the team..can you really blame him.
who does he think he is, steve austin?
power to him. but if his performance this year is as bad as it was with the jets, 1 – 4…though the dollars he brought into the franchise were rumoured to be substantial…can we just cancel the soap opera?
the purely business part should not be ignored.
>>the dollars he brought into the franchise were rumoured to be substantial
I saw this firsthand last season. Favre is a legend; he IS a draw on the road; he WILL sell tickets and jerseys.
Meanwhile on the Coast the Niners have got a holdout by Michael Crabtree, who’s operating under the theory that he should have been drafted higher so he should be paid more. So far no one’s been convinced by his unique logic.
The Niners haven’t shown much at quarterback but they’ve got a lot of good young running backs.
Life begins anew the first week of football.
that greedy asshole Crabtree deserves to be slapped down. The 9rs need receivers, but someone who’s been in training camp and actually learned his routes is going to be a whole lot more valuable this season.
Alas.
How ’bout them Lions?
tell me you’re not delusional enough to hold out hope for the liedowns. Its a treatable sickness, you know – lots of long term therapy and psychotropic drugs and you might be able to stop the pain at the sight of Honolulu Blue…
Sigh…my feeble attempt at sarcasm failed miserably.
As far as I’m concerned, any organization (Philly & the NFL) that hires Michael Vick, will not get any of my viewing time. There must be at least a quadrillion books to read instead of watching pro football.
Chief, it seems to me that your comment is Punishmentarianism stretched to the limit. Anyone who makes a mistake should be condemned, shunned, consigned to the furthest reaches of whatever hell we can devise, never forgiven, eternally punished.
What will satisfy you ?
I believe in the redemption part of Christianity (not the magic stuff), so when someone serves his time I don’t call for a lifetime of retribution.
The Dolphins looked pretty good in their two exhibition games. They have the toughest schedule in all of football this year. Time for this team to make a statement.
Not that it’d get any attention, given that ESPN has stopped pretending to be anything other than the Official BrittFarr Network.
Gotta say, Boo: I’ve never understood why Favre is so deserving of attention. Hell, he was easily outplayed by his backup in that first preseason game.
He pulled this whole unretire/retire/unretire again stunt with the Vikings in order to ditch training camp. His teammates hated him in New York because of his lack of effort. He’s clearly a selfish dramaqueen.
And he’s always been about as reliable as a Yugo. It’s just that it only becomes obvious once he finds himself with a mediocre team like the Jets.
Not that I’m complaining, as a Dolphins fan. He was our MVP in that final regular-season game.
I can’t say what his motivations are for being back and forth these last two years, but he’ll always be a gunslinger to me. He can kill you with trying to do too much, but he’s got balls that came in a crate and he’s tough as nails. I always respected him, too, for coming the to league and telling them he was hooked on painkillers – who does that, in any sport? Who ever comes and asks publicly for help, instead of trying to hide shit? I remember when he had to beg for permission months after that to be able to drink a beer on a Friday night.
Say what you want, I’ll always respect the guy, and I’ll always remember traveling down under the lake and back up the other side to see him beat up my state’s pathetic team at Lambeau on a Sunday night in December.
calvin has lived in Cheeseland for the vast majority of his life. Much of that time was in the “Greater” Green Bay area. He remembers the Packers before St. Vince walked across Lake Michigan to take the reins of a failing franchise.
Players were paid far less then. ESPN didn’t televise from the locker room, 24/7. Still, players had some fairly large egos. It was St. Vince’s job to harness the egos and get them to play together.
Someplace along the line, some players started to think that they were more important than anything or anyone else. T.O. has been mentioned as a case in point. #4 had a special relationship with Coach Holmgren. No other coach or GM could replace that because of how they both developed together.
When current GM Ted Thompson wasn’t on the same page as Brett, an incredible animosity was built up over who was in charge and who was making decisions. Brett was very unhappy with Thompson’s decisions. And, he was unhappy with how Thompson treated him.
That’s fairly well known and understood in Cheeseland. Many presume that Brett’s stint with MN is an attempt to “pay back” Thompson for what Brett perceives as his ill treatment at the hands of Thompson.
BooMan is correct in that Brett sure looks funny in purple. But, he’s gonna look even funnier when that purple is stained with green and gold. Calvin is looking forward to that Monday Night Game and watching #4 pick himself up again and again and again.
Go Pack.
