Even though Mark Steyn is probably the most systemically dishonest columnist being published in this country, I hope he is right about Obama ramming home a health care bill that will cause “long-term gains [that] will be transformative and irreversible.” My understanding is that Obama is appearing on 60 Minutes tonight and saying that he fully understands that he will own the health care plan if he signs it into law, and that he’ll pay the price if it doesn’t do what he promised it would do. If it makes health insurance universally accessible, affordable, fully transportable, and guaranteed regardless of preexisting conditions, then he will transform the politics in this country permanently, and for the better. That’s what I’m fighting for. That’s not what the centrists on the Senate Finance Committee are fighting for.
