Clinton said she loves being secretary of state, but conceded, “It is a really hard job . . . a 24-7 job,” and “I feel the weight of it pretty significantly.” Asked if she would be sitting in the same office for eight years, Clinton shuddered.
“Please! I will be so old,” she said with a shake of her head.
The whole profile is here.
Sixty-nine is “so old”? I don’t think so.
I notice that Clinton didn’t mention any accomplishments since she got that State job. It’s early yet. The State motto is “Diplomacy In Action” but if she doesn’t get going with some diplomatic achievements rather than merely threat-mongering it will be “Diplomacy Inaction.”
any of his “accomplishments”?
you mean, in addition to getting elected President of a nation who still abuses and kills blacks for….well, being black?
hmmm….maybe staying alive after all those town-halls, with gunmen walking ’round outside could be an accomplishment.
Beyond that, I’ll be more jaundiced—get a real Progressive (NOT Rahm, that’s fershure) advising policy, and deal with DADT, and I’ll be willing to count a couple more positives….
accomplishment deficit on Rahm Emanuel?
Wow.
nah… I just thinkRahm was a poor choice for Chief of Staff, and every time some new bit of info pops, I like him less. The man (imo) has a bit of Svengali in him ;-P
As for Obama, and staying alive in a tough world, I’d think an accomplishment that might be attributable to him is stabilizing the freefall of the economy…. Cash for Clunkers was an unqualified success too (more than expected).
looking at the mess his predecessor left him, don’t be too demanding, it’s likely to take a little time to put Humpty-Dumpty back together again…
I’m sixty-one and lemme tell ya, I feel old! I couldn’t keep her schedule now much less keep doing it for years! There are exceptions to every generality, of course, but past sixty most people begin to recognize their limits.
My age. I am a very healthy professional, but I agree with her. It’s not just physical age, but at some point you are seeing things for the umpteenth time, and you’re sick of it all.
I truly feel sorry for you “old” coots. I’m a backpacker/swimmer/bicyclist/motorcyclist/mandolin player looking forward to my next overseas trip as a learning experience, plus everything works, if you know what I mean. I’m 72 — but it’s just a number, and I’m not sick of anything. I still enjoy sunsets, and good coffee, and witty people, and I’m stickin’ around because who knows what interesting thing will pop up next.
One thing’s sure — it won’t be either of you two.
No thanks for the put down.
I am still working in a difficult and competitive profession, serve on three community boards (and am president of one of them) , have hobbies, family and friends and hike several hours every day. But there are some things I’ve had enough of in my career and I have redirected my efforts and attention to other things. I assume that’s what Hillary means. I doubt anyone reading this blog has worked in such a public, high pressure job as the one she’s now holding. Maybe she wants to spend some time smelling the roses before she expires.
Don, you says she’s threat mongering?? Well if that’s true, the threats are coming from Obama, and Hillary as SOS is speaking on behalf of him.
a subtle prelude to stepping down to run for the ny gov spot? lot’s of rumors floating around to that effect. then mitchell steps into the SoS spot? not a bad trade off, imo.
l never saw her as being a long term appointee, it was, in all likelihood, a political sop, to ease the transition from failed presidential candidate to SoS, then on to other things.
political theatre. act l scene 2.
dunno…but this is an interesting turn of events:
Obama asks New York governor not to run
l doubt gov paterson enjoyed receiving that message.
24-7? You mean that Secretaries of State get 3 a.m. phone calls?
She botched Honduras & I still don’t like her, but I don’t want her to pull a Palin & quit before her term’s up, even if she has a chance to be Governor.
She didn’t botch anything, and she’s doing the best job she can, considering who she’s working for. Every damn day I wake up and cringe seeing Obama on my screen, knowing Hillary was the better candidate. Oh by the way, just read on Huffington Post that Michelle nixed Hillary for VP because she didn’t want Bill and Hillary in the same building. Gee I guess we all know who wears the pants in the family. I always knew Obama had no balls, and this proves it.
