The New York Football Giants are now 4-0 and are only the tenth team to ever complete an undefeated three-game road trip in the NFL. I was worried for a while that Eli Manning injured his achilles’ tendon, but it turns out that he’s fine. Next week they will take on the totally hapless Oakland Raiders, who should really be demoted to some minor league. And then it will be the 5-0 Giants against the 5-0 Saints to find out who is the best team in the nation. How did your team do this weekend?

My team, the Detroit Lions, lost today. But they did break their 19-game losing streak last week. By the way, I don’t live anywhere near Detroit, nor do I have any connections to the city. I just picked the team to root for about 10 years ago on a whim. What’s cool is that nowadays I can listen to the game being called on the radio – via the Internet – so I can follow it better than a cold reading the next day in the newspaper, and I can listen to the post-game fan reaction. That’s something you couldn’t do in the past.
That’s rough. Maybe you’d have happier Sundays if you had stuck with your local team?
I missed my New England Patriots winning against a tough Baltimore team, 26-20. I missed it because I slept through the game in trying to restore my sleeping cycle after a sleep-depriving busy cycle at work.
We will find out shortly…
File this under middle school humor, but Keith Olberman just tried to comment on teams wearing pink to highlight breast cancer awareness and he accidentally failed to mention the word cancer…
of course, the hapless raiders beat the Chiefs already…. so if there’s demoting to be done…
sigh
well, you have Dallas next week. Do me a favor and beat them.
Is the Killer Diller of All Rivalries, Packers versus Vikings.
Vikes now have Number 4, Brett Favre, as their helmsman.
Packers are looking forward to putting Favre away, as they “know” him. He may, though, have a few surprises for them.
Let me say, this is going to be a biggie.
My Giants won big but there are a couple of concerns. The first is the heel injury to Manning, which is hopefully nothing. The other is Lawrence Tynes, the field goal kicker. This week is the 3rd game where he missed a chip shot field goal. So far it has not cost any games but I don’t want to see any Scott Norwood moments come the post season.
ditto on that. hopefully he’s getting it out of his system now, but good god.
We are still enjoying baseball in MN as the Twins this afternoon won their 16th of their last 20 games to force a tiebreaker game with Detroit on Tuesday!! The odds of that were less than 5%. But now the odds are with Minnesota to win the division as Detroit has to play at the Metrodome (since we had a better head to head record this year with them). Go TWINS!!!!!
what time is the game?
4 pm Central on Tuesday on TBS. 🙂
Niners!
My team is the Seahawks. They were playing the Colts. You do the math.
I’m still trying to adjust to the concept of the Giants being a steady, elite NFL team. And that from someone who’s been a (serious) fan since the Ray Perkins days. There have been some great teams since that time but they never seemed to have that intangible something that today’s team has. Continuity I guess, is the difference. Especially tough to achieve in the free agent era. To have the depth to just plug in one amazing receiver or running back or linebacker after another is truly a gift of riches.
Can’t say enough about the management and the coaching. Especially Coughlin. Perfect guy. I still remember him turning down the job in 91 to go coach Boston College and the disastrous Handley years that followed. Then the Dave Brown/Kent Graham/Danny Kanell years.
One thing though, and I know it’s the nature of the business side of the game, but I’m feeling bad for Amani Toomer this year. Class act if there ever was one. I wish he’d come home and retire in Blue.
My son’s team had a bye this weekend… They are at a very suckish 1 and 3, so far, this season.
Glad the Giants won. Eli’s big brother led the Colts to victory too. The Manning franchise is 8-0. Now, wouldn’t that be a super Super Bowl?
The Niners are back!
My Dolphins kicked the snot out of Buffalo. At least I got one win out of this season.
