Danish cartoonist Kurt Westergaard’s alleged attacker held in Hilary Clinton plot in Kenya: Reports

(New York Daily News) – The Somali man charged with the attempted murder of Danish cartoonist Kurt Westergaard was reportedly held in Kenya over a plot to attack U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

The 28-year-old suspect was known to the Danish intelligence agency PET for allegedly participating in a plot targeting Clinton, Denmark’s Politiken newspaper reports.

Clinton was in Kenya in August on a stop during an 11-day tour of Africa.

According to the paper, the suspect was later released due to lack of evidence.

The news agency Ritzau reports that the Somali man was actually arrested for having incomplete travel documents. Denmark’s ambassador to Kenya, Bo Jensen, told the agency that Kenyan authorities made no mention of the suspect having taken part in a terror plot and that the newspaper simply misunderstood the situation.

The Somali man was charged Saturday with two counts of attempted murder after breaking into Westergaard’s home Friday night wielding an ax and a knife.
