I can’t recoil enough from the mind of the Republican.

Which Orifice did King pull that from?
….the mind reels at the possibilities…
No matter what kind of bullshit these assholes spew I can sleep knowing my president has told the Haitian people “YOU WILL NOT BE FORSAKEN.” Thank God there is a good and decent man in the Whitehouse when these poor people need help.
My outrage meter is broken. My disgust meter must be too. Doughboy has been off the charts lately though. I think he’s feeling overshadowed by Fox and Palin and Conan and Leno.
Please tweet that, BooMan! I’ll retweet.
par for the course with that lunatic.
I’m bracing myself. Has Bachmann weighed in yet?
Me neither, Booman. Especially since I read this:
I hope it’s okay to reprint the whole thing. What do I know, after all.

Ten Things the US Can and Should Do for Haiti
by Bill Quigley | January 15, 2010 – 9:25am
One. Allow all Haitians in the US to work. The number one source of money for poor people in Haiti is the money sent from family and workers in the US back home. Haitians will continue to help themselves if given a chance. Haitians in the US will continue to help when the world community moves on to other problems.
Two. Do not allow US military in Haiti to point their guns at Haitians. Hungry Haitians are not the enemy. Decisions have already been made which will militarize the humanitarian relief – but do not allow the victims to be cast as criminals. Do not demonize the people.
Three. Give Haiti grants as help, not loans. Haiti does not need any more debt. Make sure that the relief given helps Haiti rebuild its public sector so the country can provide its own citizens with basic public services.
Four. Prioritize humanitarian aid to help women, children and the elderly. They are always moved to the back of the line. If they are moved to the back of the line, start at the back.
Five. President Obama can enact Temporary Protected Status for Haitians with the stroke of a pen. Do it. The US has already done it for El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Sudan and Somalia. President Obama should do it on Martin Luther King Day.
Six. Respect Human Rights from Day One. The UN has enacted Guiding Principles for Internally Displaced People. Make them required reading for every official and non-governmental person and organization. Non governmental organizations like charities and international aid groups are extremely powerful in Haiti – they too must respect the human dignity and human rights of all people.
Seven. Apologize to the Haitian people everywhere for Pat Robertson and Rush Limbaugh.
Eight. Release all Haitians in US jails who are not accused of any crimes. Thirty thousand people are facing deportations. No one will be deported to Haiti for years to come. Release them on Martin Luther King day.
Nine. Require that all the non-governmental organizations which raise money in the US be transparent about what they raise, where the money goes, and insist that they be legally accountable to the people of Haiti.
Ten. Treat all Haitians as we ourselves would want to be treated.
Of course as butterfly and keres said, giving blood and blood products are essential.
I guess I’ll have to get up off my white ass and give blood for once in my life.
True words.
Like I said this morning, the GOP are animals. This is one reason why.
We’re all animals, robert.
Which makes it all the more astonishing that Barack Obama is turning the country back over to them by virtue of his failure to lead.
He’s followed Bush like a puppy dog on Afghanistan and Iraq and pissed away the most promising year this country has had in a half-century by making compromise after compromise on a health care bill that he never actually took a position on.
When Obama took office it was widely acknowledged that the Republican Party was dead. Now, through his stewardship, he has the Democrats on the ropes and the Republicans are ecstatic.
.
How to lead when confronted with great financial crisis, the President perhaps took it upon himself to do too much. In the end, most damning will be the failure to create jobs, jobs, jobs. These deep recessions usually see a jobless recovery. Main motivation by voters in hard times is “it’s the economy stupid.” On the financial crisis, there is plenty of room for criticism … failure to alleviate hardship in the mortgage loan crisis for example.
On the Bush issues you mention, The U.S. forces are getting out of Iraq: lowest body count for U.S. men and women and the Iraqi civilians (U.S. suicide count 160). In Afghanistan, Bush left a greater mess as there was littlte gain since 2002. Obama has stated a new policy, although in my conviction a timeframe of 18 months is not realistic to turn security over to the Afghan National Army (ANA). Pressure on the Pakistan side of the border has been achieved and the drone attacks are deadly.
In my analysis, there was and is no alternative. Hillary Clinton would have a policy much more in line with Bush. I agree, the first year has seen too many disappointments. Democrats on the whole, DNC included, have failed in their response to Republican strategy, led by the Faux news media outlets and right-wing radio. It’s a tough battle.
PS Obama based his strategy in Congress on a 60 vote majority, I think he was wrong in doing so. I preferred to kick Nelson and Lieberman’s butt instead. I like some honesty and clarity to define Democrat’s policy. Kicking ass is always better for an explanation to your constituents than kissin’ butts.
