Catch that?

You’ve heard of journalism pieces where they “go behind the headlines”? I’m not gonna do that. I’m not going to click those links, I’m simply going to go from the headlines and brief summaries. (Hey, that’s as much prep as anyone does before going on TV!!)

The defense (pro-prop8, anti-gay marriage) calls its first witness yesterday whose main argument is that gay people have “substantial political power from high-ranking elected officials, labor unions, newspapers, corporations and progressive religious groups.” They say gays have the support of the Democratic party and even Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. (Really? And what has he done for teh gays?) They say we have a “rising level of cultural support in America.”

Remember this is the opening day of the people against gay marriage!

I think many gays would be surprised to hear that. Regardless…

SO?

I mean, that’s an argument against gay marriage?

I guess they’re building their case that there cannot be unequal protection, there’s no need for a court to step in because we gays are already so very powerful! (That’s a laugh.)

But all that was yesterday. The first witness for the defense. What’s today’s headline? Oh, yeah: Gays face significant discrimination in the workplace. It’s pretty easy to guess that this is the same political scientist* from yesterday who is now undergoing cross-examination today! Oops!! Looks like the super-connected, mighty-and-powerful gays FORGOT TO use their power to remedy workplace discrimination — not to mention equalize adoption rights, erase childhood bullying through education, repeal Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, and oh-fucking-yeah LEGALIZE GAY MARRIAGE!

But, other than those things, Gays Rule The World. (At least according to the defenders of anti-gay legislation.)

…just cannot believe that that is their defense!
