It’s not a good sign that the Iraqi people are dodging mortars and car bombs as they make their way to the polls. This election is very important, both for the Iraqis and for the United States. If we want to get our troops out of there on schedule, we need these elections to go smoothly and for a government to be formed in a timely manner.

Yes and just how many ‘unitary executive’ governments did we set up after WW2?
It is not a bit surprising. Anyone who did not anticipate it is living in a dreamland. And if the Obama administration uses this as an excuse to cancel its troop drawdown as they have threatened to do, then they are not honouring either the Iraqis’ wishes or their own solemn agreement. Nothing new about that, of course.
Yes, the election in Iraq is so very important. The purple thumbs, oh my god. The continued dead people really make me think this “war” has a noble cause.
