Joe Hoeffel is slowly picking up some key endorsements and momentum in his bid to be the Democratic nominee for governor in Pennsylvania:

In making the announcement, Sari Stevens, Executive Director for Planned Parenthood PAC, said, “more than any other candidate in this race, Joe Hoeffel understands that people need information and options so that they can make responsible life decisions.”

In making its endorsement, the Liberty City Democratic Committee joined two other LGBT advocacy groups from across the state–the Gertrude Stein Political Club of Greater Pittsburgh and the Steel-City Stonewall Democrats–in endorsing Hoeffel. Asserting his strong support for equality, Hoeffel said “my administration will actively promote diversity in hiring and promotions, and I will have an open door to address the concerns of the LGBT community.”

The two endorsements come on the heels of a Quinnipiac poll showing Hoeffel’s momentum has put him in a strong position to win the primary. The poll put him in a close second place, with nearly half of the voters still undecided.

It’s refreshing to see a proud liberal running in this political climate and doing well. Nate Silver finds that the Democratic base is now as fired up as any base in any midterm election cycle in polling history…except for this year’s Republican base. So, it’s time to get started. Show your support to Joe Hoeffel by making a contribution to his campaign. We need some progressive victories in this down year. The primary is May 18th.
