Here are a couple of videos to show you what is happening in the gulf. The first includes aerial footage and commentary on the oil leak.
The second shows a pod of dolphins swimming in oil-slicked waters.
Still no end in sight.

Nice job on the dolphins. Maybe you weren’t aware, but yesterday there was a chart showing media coverage of the disaster and it was far less than others so that public opinion would not be moved much. This was theorized because there were very few pictures of oily ducks (i.e. cute things hurt) and that even Greenpeace could only find a few. The dolphin video is a good one if its from the gulf. Exactly what we need to move public opinion.
The lack of pictures may be due to the spill largely being offshore – once it begins washing up en masse on beaches we’ll probably see more pix.
Then too, seeing how the media perpetually mention “the company responsible” instead of BRITISH PETROLEUM they may not be due a charitable view…
So far it’s looking like the result will be a lot closer to the worst-case scenarios than the more hopeful ones. The real impact won’t be obvious until the mess reaches shore, barring some miraculous fix. Gotta admit, the outlook is so heartbreaking I can’t bring myself to even look at most of the pictures — and they are going to get much, much worse.
It is incredibly hard to look at. I grew up sailing, and have spent time out there in the gulf with the dolphins swimming alongside our boat…it makes me sick to think what the impact of this might be.
God.
sickening isn’t it?
the worst part is they can’t contain it, and instead of playing it straight, the whole establishment is trying to pretend it’s not happening.
disgraceful. we’re a nation of spoiled children.
Those of us down here in South Texas who lived through the aftermath of the Ixtoc spill have a better idea than most of how bad this is going to get. If you look at a map of the entire Gulf coast there is one thing very different about these 2 spills. We have a barrier island from Brownsville to Matagorda that took the brunt of the oil and protected our bay systems. Where this spill is going there isn’t one. It’s going to be much, much worse than any of the estimates. On top of the ecological damage for years to come, the economic damage will be devastating to the affected areas.
And yet, support for the Oil Companies (including BP) runs highest in the Gulf States.
a friend in florida who I keep in otuch with via facebook told me this Am that dolphins are washing up on shore.
heckuva job, BP.
