(MSNBC/AP) – Foreign Minister Stephen Smith told Parliament the operation to kill Hamas official Mahmoud al-Mabhouh in a Dubai hotel room in January was not the first time Israel had forged Australian travel documents. He did not elaborate on previous incidents, but said the latest transgression breached “confidential undertakings” between the two countries.
“The high quality of these counterfeited passports points to the involvement of a state intelligence service. These are not the actions of a friend.”
Smith said Israel had been asked to withdraw a diplomat.
Expelled diplomat ‘a Mossad agent’
The Israeli official expelled by the Rudd Government over the use of Australian passports in the assassination of a Hamas leader is a Mossad representative in the Israeli embassy in Canberra.
The diplomat, who has not been identified, will be withdrawn this week after a wide-ranging probe found the Jewish state was involved in the fraudulent use of Australian passports, Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported.
In a statement to the Parliament Foreign Minister Stephen Smith said an investigation by the Australian Federal Police, ASIO and ASIS left the government in no doubt that the sophisticated forgery was the work of a state, namely Israel.

Nicole Sandra McCabe, Adam Marcus Korman and Joshua Daniel Bruce, from Melbourne all of whom now live in Israel had their passports stolen or copied (allegedly by Israeli secret service Mossad) to carry out the killing of Hamas figurehead Mahmoud al-Mabhouh in Dubai.
Australia has put its relationship with Israel on the line over the use of Australian passports, arguing that any involvement by its strong Middle East ally would not be regarded as the act of a friend.
(Daily Telegraph) Mar. 24. 2010 – David Miliband, the Foreign Secretary, said an investigation by the Serious Organised Crime Authority had concluded that there were “compelling reasons” to believe responsibility for the “misuse” of a dozen passports lay with the Israelis.
The passports were forged while their holders were passing through airports in the region, and the counterfeit documents used by a hit squad suspected of murdering a Hamas commander in Dubai.
The Foreign Secretary confirmed that Britain had no advance knowledge of the operation to clone passports while their holders were travelling through Israel and other countries. Other passports were stolen from Irish, German, Australian and French citizens.
Eldad, Ben-Ari: Britons are dogs
(JPost) – Members of the Israeli parliament likened the British government to “anti-Semitic dogs” and demanded the expulsion of Britain’s military attaché in Tel Aviv.
“I think the British are being hypocritical, and I do not wish to insult dogs here, since some dogs show true loyalty, [but] who gave the British the right to judge us on the war on terror?” said Arieh Eldad, a right-wing member of the Knesset.
Michael Ben-Ari added: “We have learned that a dog must be called by its name. This is anti-Semitism disguised as anti-Zionism.”

To briefly summarise: in March 2004, Police arrested two Israelis, Eli Cara and Uriel Kelman, in the act of them collecting a fraudulently obtained New Zealand passport (it was in the name of an NZ cerebral palsy sufferer who had certainly not applied for a passport and was no position to ever travel). The passport was sought, not for either of them, but for their ringleader, Zev Barkan aka Zev Bruckenstein, who had been an Israeli diplomat in Europe for a number of years. Barkan fled the country and has not been brought to justice.
There was a fourth man also involved (all classic spy rings always have a mysterious Fourth Man), whom media inquiries identified as New Zealand citizen, Anthony David Reznik (video). He is a New Zealand citizen who had lived for many years in Israel and who is believed to have been the one responsible for selecting the disabled man for the identity theft (Reznik worked as a St Johns Ambulance paramedic and would have come into contact with the unknowing victim. Barkan also lived in a street near the disabled man). Reznik, and his family, also hurriedly fled the country without being brought to justice.
The online edition of Israeli newspaper Haaretz quoted Israeli radio: “…The reports said Reznik was a religious Jew, a member of Auckland’s Jewish Council. Members of the Jewish community were quoted as saying that he planned to return to live in Israel. According to the report, Reznik had lived in Israel for 13 years and had served in the Israel Defence Forces…If Reznik was indeed involved in the affair, he may have served a part that the Mossad has been known to offer to Jews living outside Israel, and which usually does not put the person providing the assistance at high risk. The question remains – why would Israeli Intelligence go to such lengths to secure, fraudulently, a New Zealand passport? The answer is sinister in the extreme, because Mossad is not just any old run of the mill spy agency, which simply spies on people. It specialises in murdering them.

This convicted Likud criminal’s firm was in charge of security at Logan Airport inspecting the validity of passports and visas, searching cargo, screening passengers when two airliners were hijacked from there on Sept. 11, 2001, and demolished the World Trade Center towers in New York.
Without Atzmon in charge of Newark and Logan Airports, 9-11 could not have happened. The same goes for Schiphol airport security where Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab boarded the Airbus 330 heading for Detroit (USA).

(JPost) – Polish authorities have arrested an Israeli man suspected of being a Mossad agent who helped in the assassination of Hamas terrorist Mahmoud al-Mabhouh in Dubai earlier this year, the German federal prosecutor’s office said Saturday.
A man using the name of Uri Brodsky is suspected of working for a foreign spy agency in Germany and helping issue a fake German passport to a member of the Mossad hit squad allegedly behind the killing of al-Mabhouh in January, the German spokesman told The Associated Press.
Brodsky was arrested in early June upon his arrival in Poland because of a European arrest warrant issued by Germany, and Germany is now seeking his extradition, the spokesman said.
The spokesman had no estimate of how long it could take for Brodsky to be extradited, saying “the matter is now in the hands of the Polish authorities.”
GERMAN INVESTIGATION OF FOREIGN SPY AGENCY
German news weekly Der Spiegel reported that the arrest in Poland has already led to some diplomatic friction. The Israeli embassy has urged Polish authorities not to extradite Brodsky, the magazine reports in its issue to be published Monday.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry said without elaborating that it was aware of the man’s arrest. “At the moment, we’re looking into that like any other Israeli who has been arrested, and he’s getting consular treatment,” spokesman Andy David said.
Germany’s Foreign Ministry had no comment on the case and referred to an ongoing judicial investigation by the federal prosecutor’s office. The country’s top investigating unit deals with all cases affecting internal or external security, including terrorism or espionage.
After a German passport was used by a person linked to the Dubai slaying, the prosecutor’s office in February started investigating a possible connection to a foreign intelligence agency.
Authorities in the western city of Cologne had issued a passport to a man named Michael Bodenheimer. A man using that name was among the assassins who killed the Hamas operative, according to Dubai police.
