We have Phillies tickets for tonight’s game against the Twins…an early Father’s day treat.
What are you all doing this weekend??
Have a good time! Is the FinnMan coming along?
Yep. We had a great time.
Having great time already. No time to stay and visit.
The view from the place we’re staying:

That looks beautiful and tranquil. And you are staying there until Friday?
Yep, we’re here all week until we head to New York.
Gorgeous! Have fun!
What a lovely view! Makes me wonder about the panorama available from atop the background mount.
We went up a mountain on the opposite side today and had a great view of the Notch and also the southern Presidentials, including Mt. Washington.
Looks like Crawford Notch trailhead? can’t wait to hear about it!
That’s the Crawford Depot in front of the entrance to the Notch. We’re staying at AMC’s Highland Center which is right above the Notch.
How wonderful!
We all had so much fun last night. Finn was so good, it was a late (and loud) night for him, but he didn’t fuss or anything – he even let us get out for a bite to eat afterwards. And the game was good too – ryan howard is as big as he looks on teevee, and he hit 2 homers, a triple, and a double.
Today I’m headed back down to Philly with my mom and Mr. Finn to go do a little tour of the yarn and fabric shops within walking distance of Rittenhouse Square (3 that I can think of without even trying), and maybe a little stop at the gelato shop. Should be fun, and it’s my mom’s birthday tomorrow.
Sunday has a barbecue on the agenda. That, and some background reading for some work stuff coming up fast this week.
We had more violent thunderstorms here last night with flash flooding in some areas. Happily, it was not a repeat performance of the June 2008 flood.
Predictions are for a heat index of 105 today. I think the IDs will be staying indoors where its comfily cool.
Wow. That’s a lot water. Reminds me a little of my hurrican Alex experience on Ocracoke a few years back.
And a lot of heat. How did people survive without a/c?
Our former house, much further out in the woods, had no AC, but we were 20 years younger and more energetic then;-)
My housemate & I actually have natural AC — a stone foundation & first floor partially below ground. We’re deliciously cool all summer.
Happy weekend one & all!
Happy Birthday and Father’s Day. Sounds like a fine time was had and will be had by all.
We had a lovely time. Finn charmed the ladies wherever we went, and we had a nice long stroll through the city in the process.
Bpth yarn stores carry different stuff, and the fabric store was so much fun that I got material to make a new summer bag (birdie sling). And I have lots of ideas for new knitting projects too (sigh).
And of course, the golden margarita non-dairy gelato was a real treat too.
Happy father’s day to all. I’m going out to celebrate by mowing my lawn. Ugh.
Happy Father’s Day b2, BooMan & all you other dads! IDtE appeared for a visit yesterday and brought a gift of my favorite import beer, a very nice gift it was, considering the high level of heat & stickyness outdoors.
Happy Father’s Day to you and all the other dads too!
A nice cold beer sounds perfect. I think we’re going to have a much hotter day today than we did yesterday. Good grilling weather, though. 🙂
The longest day is nearly upon us.
my favorite. thinking of staying up for 36 hours to get the full impact
There has been a celebration in July in the form of a Native American Sundance here, in a nearby national forest, every year for the past several years. There are, however, conflicts within the Native American community over some aspects of the local Sundance.
interesting – had no idea Sundance was observed now and so widespread as far as tribes goes. Nothing so active for me today – just enjoying the superfluity of light
It’s well after 8am and the sun has yet to hit the tops of the highest peaks and probably won’t for another twenty minutes. And the sun will set by 5pm, making this the longest night of the year – and we’ll be glad to have it behind us.
Growing up in southern California I’m addicted to sunshine and I’ve never really adapted to living another 10 degrees further from the equator, even though this is my second move, polar-wise.
It’s here! Now it’s all downhill, so to speak.
Time for us all to head to Tazmania!
Hope everyone’s had a great weekend. Merry Solstice!
Yey!
Maybe its called Bee Balm because…
Bumble, bumble, bumble, buzz, buzz, buzz.
Last Monday we stopped in a little town call Chudleigh just to buy some raw Leatherwood comb-honey and honey ice cream. If you ever want to buy something bee-themed, Chudleigh, Tasmania is the place to go.
Wow. Great shot, ID!
Ours hasn’t blossomed yet, but it’s spread beautifully since last year.
I was actually going for a butterfly, but it spooked and flew away, so I had to use the less-nervous bees as subjects instead.
Wow. Nice shot.
Today’s sun-up was at 8:36am, and sundown was at 4:54pm.
I’ve set a candle in the window to burn all night and help guide the sun back after it’s journey through the long dark.
For Bretton Woods, sunrise is 5:00am (I can’t quite see it yet though — the mountains are blocking it) and sunset and sunset is 8:32pm.
Off to get ready to go see some of those mountains.
Good night to you and good morning to the other folks.
Wow. How is Bretton Woods? I’ve been wanting to go there, but have a hard time getting over the fact that my ex grew up in the White Mts. Silly, but true.
I can’t believe the weekend is already over…but looking forward to what is (hopefully) a short week, with more mini-vacations to come over the enxt month.
I’ve only driven through it. I’m staying several miles away and don’t have any reason to go there … but it looks fine. 🙂

I hope the candle strategy is working
It’s worked every other year. 😉
Yes. Notice how our days get shorter while yours get longer.
😉
Yeah, well I won’t brag about that until we hit equinox. Right now it’s still damned dark and chilly.
I washed Luna this morning and she’s having to finish drying off in the house because it’s too cold outside.
yes, I was thinking that about the candle strategy. Somehow I’m getting a funny feeling that keres’ gain is our loss; sun seemed to set awfully early today, probably racing to get to the candle.
I doubt my Goth ancestors (from whom I get the tradition) knew about the southern hemisphere and how people down here got the flip-side of the solar year in the North. Of course, even if they had known, I doubt my Goth ancestors would have cared (too busy sacking Europe).
well, now we have the World Cup – more tame, but just a little more tame
Go the Vandals! (We get so many lovely words from my lovely ancestors.)
Good morning! I am wishing Mr. Finn would let me slee for more than an hour at a time from 3 to 6 am…yikes.
Too little slee is apparent.
I’m hoping that someone is just cutting teeth and we can go back to sleeping a little more normally soon.
I’ll add my hope to yours (if that helps any).
I’m still waiting for Lily (now 17 months old) to sleep past 5:30am.
Maybe we could put in an order for both of them sleep in until 7?
I’d settle for 6:30am.
Normal sleeing is impossible with a young child.
I took a nap for an hours after work this afternoon, and it just made me more aware of how tired I really am…
You obviously need it judging from your typing. 😉
we’re about to get about to get our first female Prime Minister. Not that I think that she’ll be much of an improvement over the guy she’s replacing. Like the Dems in the US, the Australian Labor Party is largely centrist and spineless.
Then we really are on the way to one world government ..
😉
Good morning!
Certainly warm enough today – though not as brutal as yesterday. Good to be back in the city.
Welcome back! Yep, yesterday was very uncomfortable.
Good morning, ask. wasn’t it 90 or something yesterday? looking forward to seeing you, meeting curly, meeting others!
We’ll all have a lot of fun.
Good morning! See you very soon.
Have a great time, everyone!
Warm and humid here, perfect weather for cutting the lawn. Not.
That’s what we’re doing here, too. The way the grass is growing, it’s easy to realize we live in a rain forest.
How was your day yesterday?
I’m mowing much less, now that Mrs. ID’s pumpkin vines are running all over the front yard.
