Bush’s boat runs aground at Gooch’s Beach

KENNEBUNK, Maine (Seacoastonline.com) — Former President George H.W. Bush’s 38-foot Fountain Center Console boat was steered aground Gooch’s Beach on Monday evening, when the vessel was thrown off course by a series of swells, according to Jim Appleby, the former president’s personal aide.

No injuries were reported.

Bush’s boat, Fidelity IV, was returning to Kennebunk River after spending an “afternoon run” just off of the Ogunquit coast, Appleby said. Bush has a home in Kennebunkport.

Appleby said the boat was having trouble steering through heavy fog at approximately 3 p.m. when it missed Kennebunk River and landed “right in the middle” of the popular public beach.
