Hey, if you want to get nostalgic, think back to when we all felt united and we were proud of how we all came together. And, you know, The Boss had something important to say.
Didn’t happen. George Bush and Dick Cheney weren’t the kind of people to help us rise up.
great! nice NY story, for the occasion: late, had to take a cab one sat. morning recently. feeling sort of down. ny cabs now have mini tvs with mini tv-ish programming, very paradigmatic of what Arthur Gilroy says about media, so the kind of thing full of trivialities designed to make one feel worse on a sat morning. but the mini tv was on mute and the cab driver, a young man, put on a cd, broadway songs, but after a couple seconds rethought it, and replaced the broadway shows cd with one he evidently figured I’d like more – a Bob Dylan cd. it was just great and we had a great conversation about Dylan.
Bob Dylan is a giant who should be revered by Americans like William Shakespeare is revered by English-speaking people everywhere. He is simple astounding. I wish he weren’t so grumpy and dissatisfied, but he’s the one who lived and got to see the travesty.
It was overwhelming to think, watching that video, that the song and performance (evidently from the sound of his voice) date from the yonder side of the 1980 election
having all 3 performances – great!
It’s such a hard song to sing, and Cash makes it seem like a piece of cake.
