With a sample of nearly 10 million voters, Facebook was able to accumulate some interesting data about the electorate. For example, with the World Series ending on Monday, it turns out that ‘Fans’ of the Giants and Rangers were too tired or distracted to turn out and vote. People didn’t vote in New York, probably because everyone knew Cuomo was going to win. And, in Virginia, Democrats on Facebook voted in the same numbers as Republicans on Facebook.
Also, too, more young voters need to vote or they’ll continue to get screwed by Republicans.
Good post by Ta-Nehisi Coates on populism:
Towards a Populist Obama
Thank you for the link, seabe.
Haven’t read the entire post yet, but I hope to find a little expansion on the idea that ‘the media, the Muslim, the poor, the illegal, the rich, the elites’ are not the ‘natives’. Where does that weird false dichotomy come from? Is this about something as simple as ‘me’ vs ‘not me’? Jeez.
What’s so wrong with lefty populism? Does TNC really think that big business is going to slink into the shadows?
Strange conclusion re “too tired” to vote, since all the Giants fans I know did. I think it’s more likely that fans of ANY sport team are less politically involved, overall, as a population.
They can see the participation rate for ‘fans’ of all major league baseball teams.
Yeah .. but how many “fans” do each team have? And compare that to two months ago. Or take me, I don’t listen a political affiliation though to have “liked” several Democratic politicians.
This is a self-selected sample of people who trust Facebook enough to give them accurate information
Self-selected, but 9 million strong.
People didn’t vote in New York, probably because everyone knew Cuomo was going to win.
O m f g. Really?
