It doesn’t need saying that I miss Frank, and it’s probably extraneous fluff to relate how much I was looking forward to voting for him in the ’92 Election before Teh Cancer struck, but aside from all that, I love this video bc up to this point I always had a very cold and aloof idea of FZ, and watching him playing live and slapping all those high-fives and handshakes really warms up that image. I wish I had been there for just one show. He strides the 20th century, in musical term, like a Colossus. Who else mastered all the musical forms from beginning to end better than he?
Yeah, Adrian Belew and Frank Zappa can do Black Sabbath so much better than Black Sabbath. But they can also do anything else they want.
I was thinking Stravinsky or Varese. I wouldn’t say that anybody could do Black Sabbath better than they did, that’s kinda silly, I just mean prior to FZ the most prolific musician you had in terms of musical styles was probably Miles Davis.
I’m referring to the Muffin song.
