“We are not a nation that says don’t ask don’t tell. We’re a nation that says out of many we are one.” – President Barack Obama, December 22, 2010, before signing the repeal of the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell law.

Just watched the vid on CSPAN, I cannot tell you how much I beamed seeing Pelosi breath a sigh of relief. She can really walk away from her 4 years as majority leader with head held high. She’s done so well, and the President has now officially exceeded my expectations (circa January 2010, as I realized how bad Republicans would be).
The next two years will be a trial, but solid foundations have been laid. Now we just have to defend them.
Watching the video and listening to the words that were spoken, I can’t help but be moved. For all the gay persons I know and have known during my lifetime; and who have been my friends, co-workers and confidantes, this is for you.
It is finally done. A good day. A very good day, indeed.
DADT was a win. The Food Safety Modernization Act is a win. START I assumed the Repugs would let pass eventually.
Obama please don’t give away Social Security in the State of the Union. I am afraid after the tax cut he will have some “compromise” nightmare for us. Remember social security was running surpluses for the days taxes would not cover benefits. Those days are here and the surplus has been stolen.
Tax cuts and war is very bad policy. I would like to see the endless wars in Afghanistan and Iraq to end. I think its time for another march on Washington. In 2006 there were 100,000 people protesting. I think we can do better then that this summer. I’m hoping for a chance to get out and protest the insanity. Literally, morally and economically the wars are killing us and many innocent people.
very beautiful
President Obama is all class. The man has lived up to about 95% of my expectations for him. The country as a whole? less so…

Good riddance!

that line is fabulous.
The whole speech is a must watch. Really. One of the best he has given. It’s not about big rhetorical effects. It’s just… moving.
And START is ratified.
