Unless you’re simply not paying attention, a day never goes by when the Republicans fail to let blacks, gays, Latinos, Muslims, and anyone else they don’t like realize that they’re unwelcome in their party. Today our prime example came at the Republican Leadership Conference in New Orleans. They wisely hired an Obama impersonator to entertain folks and then had to pull him off the stage after he started telling black and gay jokes. Some examples::
• On Black History Month: “Michelle celebrates the full month. I celebrate half.”
• “My mother loved a black man,” but “she was not a Kardashian.”
• Of Tim Pawlenty’s decision not to criticize Mitt Romney at Monday’s debate: “[CNN’s] John King served him up a ball softer than Barney Frank’s backside.”
To their credit, the impersonator was physically removed from the stage and his act was denounced by RLC President and CEO Charlie Davis.
This type of thing simply doesn’t happen at Democratic events. Besides, who can parody George W. Bush looking for WMD’s under his lectern?
Ok, I know that times are hard, and a brotha needs a job, but damn. I hope the money was worth it.
I know I should probably get a sense of humor or something, but just reading the write-up on this pissed me off.
Maybe I take things too seriously, but I am really just bone-weary of the subtle acceptance of this type of stuff by GOP.
Oh well, I’ll get over it…freedom of speech and all… but I certainly DON’T want to see the video of this.
He was pulled after he started joking about the Republican candidates. I haven’t watched the video though.
That was the account I read, too. As I recall, when he started joking about Romney’s multiple wives and Pawlenty surgically removing his foot from his mouth, the event organizers cut off his mic and started playing loud music. They all laughed gleefully along when he was comparing Obama’s mother to Kim Kardashian, though (because they both loved black men, get it?!)
I agree, notice the audience only booed when he talked about the Republican Presidential Candidates.

Watch the video. He finished his Obama schtick and was pulled after he’d started on Gingrich, Trump, Romney, and Pawlenty and was getting to Bachmann. The GOP deserves no credit for yanking him — they waited ’til the Obama attacks were over, and the crowd of “leaders” was loving it. It was only when he turned to the Reps and the booing started that they took action.
Anyway, for the most part the act was no more “offensive” than anything you’d see on SNL or South Park, etc., and it was better done. The guy’s pretty good — he’d actually bring up the standard at SNL.
It appears the jokes about GOP candidates were the last straw.

Why give them credit? They pull this same stunt over and over. Get their yucks and then denounce when they are called on the carpet.
It’s called dishing it out but not being able to take it.
And one of the event honchos said he thought the guy was funny for the first several minutes–when he was doing his racist anti-Obama thing. He wasn’t hooked because he was racist, he was hooked because he was going after Republicans. Which goes to show, with a GOP crowd, racism always gets the big yucks.
Watched the video. The anti-dem jokes were offensive but on the unfunny, pure bashing side. Then he started taking on the Repub candidates – the jokes were very sharp – not really funny either but very barbed; pretty surprising and I wondered if that’s why he was doing it. that’s what got him removed. He was just starting on Bachmann (after Newt, Pawlenty, Trump and Romney) and it looked to me like they cut his mic during the Bachmann “joke” (unless there was a malfunction on the feed) then they escorted him off the stage.
Worth watching the video. The dem “jokes” were those quoted above, typical unfunny, offensive. but he seemed to really go after the republicans. I was surprised.

I don’t think they had any issue with the homophobic or racist comments. I doubt the people in that conference thought that was offensive or would care even if they thought it was. What got him the hook was saying Michele Bachmann was a one syllable candidate, a little too close to home.
The audience loved the Obama parts. The booing started when he went after the Reps, and he got yanked. Why Boo would think they deserved “credit” for that is beyond me.
After all of the bullshit is done about this guy’s Obama act, I’ll bet you one thing and that is he got good bucks for this gig.
