The raid by the NYPD on the Occupy Wall Street encampment at Zuccotti Park last night has resulted in the arrest of one New York City Council Member, Ydanis Rodriguez:

Ydanis Rodriguez, 51, has been arrested and is bleeding from the head according to eyewitness reporters. The Democratic legislator has been an ardent supporter of the Occupy Wall Street movement that started on September 17.

Fellow legislator Jumaane Williams from the 45th district in Brooklyn stated on his Twitter account, “I can report that @ydanis, a #NYC Council Member, has been #arrested at #OccupyWallStreet & is bleeding from the head thanks to the #NYPD.”

Obviously political office grants one no special immunity from being beaten (allegedly) by the New York Police department, following the orders of Uber-Mayor Bloomberg, a man who feels that compliance with a court order allowing OWS protestors to re-enter Zuccotti Park need not be obeyed.

Hours after baton-wielding cops cleared Occupy Wall Street protesters and their tents from
Zuccotti Park, a judge signed a order Tuesday saying the demonstrators can return with their stuff.

Mayor Bloomberg said the city was trying to clarify the restraining order signed by Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Lucy Billings, a former civil liberties lawyer.

So much for law and order, eh?
