I’m not sure that comparing women to caterpillars is the way to go:
The leaders of the two political parties clashed over the role of gender in U.S. elections, with the Democrat saying her opponents have been “shockingly out of touch” on women’s issues and the Republican saying Democrats and the media have created a phony conflict.
“If the Democrats said we had a war on caterpillars and every mainstream media outlet talked about the fact that Republicans have a war on caterpillars, then we’d have problems with caterpillars,” Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said in an interview on Bloomberg Television’s “Political Capital with Al Hunt” airing this weekend. “It’s a fiction.”
If you’re talking about denying women preventative health care and writing laws about what doctors must shove up their vaginas then it is a bit dismissive to say that women’s concerns are phony. I’m not sure what Mr. Priebus is supposed to say in his party’s defense, but this wasn’t it.
Trying to decide if this is better or worse than something like “Look, many of us know a lot of women. We have friends who are women. To suggest we have a war on women is simply absurd.”
So the theory here is that Republicans are not demeaning women; it’s just that women are so easily fooled.
Yeah, good luck with that, Reince.
Yup, same problem they have with race. Someone who genuinely has no respect for women/nonwhites will always end up saying things like “they’re too stupid to tell we’re not actually sexist/racist.”
Republicans are not demeaning women, it’s just that women are caterpillars – is how Priebus’ excerpt reads. Probably not going to help win back women republicans
Getting a malware warning from Google re the site, Booman. FYI.
can you describe it for me?
Boo — I’m getting it too. It says that links to the website blogarama.com could cause malware to be downloaded onto my computer. I ignored the warning but others may not.

thanks. That was an aggregator that’s been in my footer for years. I guess it got funky or something. Anyway, I deleted the link.
Sure. It’s the typical red circle with the white bar through it saying “something’s not right here,” etc., adding that there is content on the site from something called blogarama, whatever the hell that is.
that was something in my footer. I deleted it. The problem should be solved.
It really is a weird and revealing comment when you think about it. A war on caterpillars? Would that be a bad thing or a good thing? Most people would have said a war on pandas or puppies or beauty, or maybe even butterflies or something, but the first thing that came to this guy’s mind as a substitute for “women” was “caterpillars”. Well, it could have been worse: Romney would have told a humorous story about the war on roaches he discussed with the CEO of Orkin.
I move that representatives from the American Psychological Association be given delegate-at-large status at the GOP convention.
Heh – if “caterpillars” is the best they can do, they really do have a problem.
yes, they certainly have a problem.
