Meet Tony Mazzola, executive director of the Republican State Committee in New Hampshire. When given the opportunity to comment on the Lilly Ledbetter Act Fair Pay Act, which provides working women the right to the same pay men get for the same work, this is what he had to say:
“Instead of this being about fair pay it’s really about a handout to trial lawyers because it expands the areas that people can sue their employers unnecessarily,” Mazzola said. “If Democrats really want to help women they should focus on the fact that women saw the slowest economic growth and jobs during the last year. They’re one of the demographics that are really struggling to find work and if they focused on jobs and the economy instead of political payback we’d be in a much better position.”
This is a sure a great way for Republicans to keep promoting how woman-friendly the GOP really is, don’t you think? Just keep sending Republican flunkies and hacks out there to claim that legislation that gives women the right to demand equal pay for the same work men do is just another government handout — for someone else! By the way I thought it was Republican politicians who were the ones “handing out” money to damn trial lawyers. You know, the same trial lawyers Republican politicians run to whenever scandal seeps out from under their living room rugs. Just ask Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, he’ll tell you all about it.
This is such an incredibly stupid statement that I honestly don’t understand how the GOP gets away with it with anybody. What this ass is saying is, business would be better off it it could screw women with impunity, and then there would be more shitty, underpaid jobs for women. And that’s supposed to help women. Gotta say, any woman who buys into even a little bit of this probably doesn’t deserve to make much money at all — at least at any job that requires a degree of intelligence.
I don’t think many of them are buying into it.
