I guess we won’t have to destroy the Chicago Cubs after all. That little Jeremiah Wright trial balloon was popped like a bottle of champagne. Still, I’m sure Mr. Ricketts will figure out some way to make trouble. He appears to be a dedicated asshole who is prepared to spend 10 million dollars during the Democratic National Convention to make the most scurrilous attacks against the president. Last I checked, Chicago was not only a Democratic town, but the president’s hometown. If Democrats don’t show up at Wrigley because their owner is an intolerable dick, there are going to be plenty of empty seats.

My grandfather was a Cubs fan who actually saw them win a World Series in 1908. My father was a Cubs fan his entire life and never saw them win the big one. He is now buried across the street from Hohokam Field in Mesa, Arizona, the spring training home of the Cubs. I have been a Cubs fan since birth, my baseball hopes rising, and then mostly dying, with their standings each year. (Fuck you, Bartman!). My two kids are Cubs fans. It is a genetic disease.
All of the above is background to this: After what he did today, the Cubs are dead to me until Joe Ricketts is no longer associated with the team. I feel like a Reds fan during the Marge Schott years.
