Did he draw the short straw or did Rick Santorum volunteer to be their designated racist?

my money’s on volunteer.
BTW, I guess this is this year’s “community organizer” bit. Are people really falling for this? We are talking about the 44th President of the United States Barack Obama not first time Senator Obama. Doesn’t the job of POTUS involve “running things”
But here I go talking in this reality rather than fantasy land.
Bonus Quote of the Day
Ugh thi Reince dude is an douche.
I don’t think Ryan has ever run a company either.
All this is riffing on the meme that running the United States government requires the exact same skill set as running a company.
Which is preposterous.
Weren’t the Republicans all whining and bitching about Obama’s “takeover” of the automobile industry? If he did in fact take over the automobile industry, wouldn’t that have left him in a position where he was, you know, running it?
The Republicans want to make this a do-over of the 2008 campaign. To be fair, in 2004 a lot of Democrats wanted a do-over of the 2000 campaign.
This strategy reeks of desperation. I hope it doesn’t work.
Well, whaddaya gonna do – this is how the Southern Strategy came in, and I guess this is how it’s gotta go out too.
In November, we’ll end it.
A designated racist? Do you mean there’ll be just one?
The scum we thought was washed away keeps coming back. The Boomerang Republican candidates. gah!
My thoughts, too. By this point, who’s not expecting speeches like Santorum’s to be in evidence throughout this convention?
Yeah, I can’t imagine Mr. “Blah people” stooping to such lows…
Hey this is Mr. Frothy we’re talking about.
Hey, some of his best friends are blah people.
I’m sure you saw Gingrich telling Chris, “You’re the real racist!” which is their standard trope…but it’s just so aggravating to deal with.
I spent a lot of 2007-2008 on Ron Paul forums, and this one jackass Michael Vinzani would always pull that shit. “Why do you assume poor people need help? You’re the real class warfare monger! Thinking they MUST need government help…”
Short straw? I imagine he got the longest straw, and the there were plenty of pasty people clamoring for a straw and a shot at becoming a hero to the base.
The ultimate irony, of course, is that your claim that “talking about welfare” is racist, is actually a racist comment!
I’m well aware that the majority of people on welfare are white. Nevertheless when white people talk to white people about welfare they are talking about black people on welfare. It has not changed in the 60 or more years since I first heard the word welfare. Ok, some of the time they are talking about brown people on welfare. But they are not talking about other white people.
These days, when someone mentions welfare, my first thoughts are of bankers and oil company executives.
How do you know what most white people are thinking about when talk to other people? Are you a mind reader? What evidence do you have to support your claim?
The Progressive that most Conservatives are “racist” is based on the assumptions that blacks cannot do as well in a free-market economy as they can in your central-planning Nirvana…
That assumption is in and of itself racist!
Racism is the belief in the inferiority of a given race…you are asserting blacks are inferior when you assert that limited government policies intended to promote self-reliance and discourage dependency are antithetical to the interests of black…there just as capable as whites!
Who would have thought that Progressive ideology is the racist ideology!
Oh hi, Newt Gingrich, is that you? I guess you’re not the historian you like to fancy yourself as:
Given that the whole modern Republican welfare meme started 30 years ago with your patron saint, Ronald Reagan, going on about black welfare mothers driving Cadillacs, I really question whether a mind reader is necessary.
Also, too: In my experience most African Americans tend to be way more sensitive to anti-black racism that most white folks are. So how come so few African-Americans agree with your “analysis”? Do you think they’re all brainwashed? Or that they’re all caught in a cycle of dependency or are too attached to their free goodies? Since you yourself acknowledged the fact that most welfare recipients aren’t black, wouldn’t those assumptions be kind of, you know, racist? Just askin’.
Black loyalty to Dems is based on culture. Most Jews are Democrats as well…
And please don’t illustrate your ignorance of the word “culture” by telling me that the above comment is “racist”.
Um, no.
Hell no.
Actually, Geov, it started long before Reagan. It was alive and robust in the 1950’s. Before that I have no direct knowledge, but I would not be surprised to learn that it goes back to the 1930’s, i.e. as long as there was welfare.
How do I know? That’s simple. I’m white. Most of the people I know or have known are white. I have ears and am not hearing-impaired.
Go back to your cage, troll.
I have a drinking game for teetotalers: take a drink after every 10 unique Black faces that you see at the GOP convention – I’ll spot you Art Davis…
You are watching?
Yep – I like comedies…and tragedies.
No fair. The camera is going to, on a fairly regular basis, show every single black face in the arena.
I mean, that spots anyone five or six right there.
And you still won’t get to 10…
