No one cares about jobs reports but at least the president got a good one this morning. In November 2008, the country lost 803,000 jobs. How does that compare to the 171,000 jobs that were created last month? Would you say that we are better off than we were four years ago?
There is now basically nothing for the political press to talk about until the election results start coming in. But I will be scouring the intertubes for field reports.
Still barely enough jobs to keep pace with population growth…
Unemployment up.
We can do better…time for a change!
Hi Neal, you sick fuck!
Consider yourself hexed with a donut.
True, we need more new jobs. However, the most likely explanation for unemployment rising 0.1% is that more people have re-entered the workforce because they now have a chance of getting hired.
In this case, “doing better” would be better served by moving “forward”, not back.
People are always pushed backwards in the name of globalization. What can we do besides voting again and making someone the president. I agree on that “no one cares.”
Another cesspool dweller from the Land of Stench just slithered in.
One interesting subtlety – extremely important but universally overlooked by the MSM – is that the private sector was up 184k but government was down 13k.
Talk to any wingnut and they’ll tell you that “everyone knows” Obama has exploded the size of government with his wild spending. The fact is that the federal government employment has grown at a rate slower than the population – and mostly due to increases in the military department – while the state government employment has shrunk drastically. Basically, GOP-enforced austerity (either through current control or through “balanced budget” controls put in at the state constitution level in years past) has severely dampened the economic recovery. Both Raygun and Bush II benefited from large increases in government payroll numbers to help their recoveries.
This is where the media has utterly failed. Just as “everyone knew” that their taxes went up under Obama (75% said they thought as much at election time 2010) although he’d met his campaign promise and cut taxes for 95% in his first month in office, now “everyone knows” another key fact that is untrue.
And when Obama pointed out how much the private payrolls had risen during one of the debates one of the supposedly nonpartisan fact-checkers hit him for omitting that the government payrolls had fallen so much. But that same GOP plant didn’t find anything wrong with Romney’s claim about out-of-control government spending – and how to reconcile those two opposite numbers.
Cue the “the jobs numbers were rigged to make Obama look good” response from Faux News in 5, 4, 3…
The weekend before Election Day is too late to make a dent in the impressions and decisions that have already been made. Since most of Romney’s support seems non-reality-based anyway, I doubt this will erode his numbers.
Well, we remember last time how business genius Jack Welch predicted that the numbers would be revised downward later. Alas, last month’s numbers were revised UPWARD 100k.
Jack Welch, by the way, is a living example of the fraud and corruption at the top. His ongoing retirement package could employ over 1000 people for GE … and they are giving it away for free to a man who is a billionaire.
That’s a lot of words about assholes.
Well, one thing the so-called “press” COULD talk about this final weekend is the revolting story that Rmoney was apparently heavily invested in a disaster capitalism extortion scheme involving bankrupt auto parts supplier Delphi, essential to all GM products lines, which the Rmoney family “invested” in via a Rmoney hedge fund backer in 2009. The UAW has blown the whistle on this latest Rmoney “investing” stench, as has the Nation. Another reason why the Rmoney 2009 tax returns absolutely could not be released?
So once again some demonic lib’ruls are aware of the latest “capitalist” abuse of the “free market” system, while the corporate press is silent about a massive windfall to the Repub prez candidate himself via one of his huge campaign backers. This on top of the endless false “facts” that GreenC details above. Your Lib’rul Media!
I seriously wonder if the propaganda and lies of the Hitler regime were much worse than what is fed to the low info American voter today, and what is conveniently ignored. “Democracy” my ass.
