Free speech doesn’t mean you get to spray paint “Baby Killer” and “Nigger Lover” on a candidate’s campaign offices – in this case, Democrat Wayne Powell, Eric Cantor’s opponent. I make no apologies for using the N word in full. When we hide the evidence of despicable acts we allow the racists and haters to control us. People, especially people who vote Republican need to see that word in full. They need to know in the starkest terms just how vile the supporters of their party are.

How I love my district’s constituents! Confederate central.
Was this the same district where Eric Cantor’s campaign office was supposedly shot at in 2010? And he went all apes&*t saying it was a Dem plot and the cops then investigated and shot down that conspiracy meme?
Place sounds almost as nutty as one of the mountain towns in my beloved Ky hills.
“Nigger lover”?
Man, I haven’t heard that one in about 30-40 years.
At some level I prefer it when they do this. It’s so much easier when they are honest about how they feel, a la Sheriff Clarke, than the politically-correct code words they’ve adopted.
I remember a few years ago, say 2003 or so, Kevin Drum (then of Calpundit) would frequently write stuff about how the wingnut-behavior-du-jour represented only a tiny percentage of Republicans. Over time I think even Kevin has come to realize that while only maybe 4-5% of the population are openly white supremacist (at least in the safety of their own group) that another 15% of the population holds hard core bigoted views and the remainder of the GOP (including those so-called “independents” who refuse to identify as GOP because they consider the GOP too liberal) have internal racism as a strong factor driving their opinions.
It’s the party of racists. And, like with the abortion issue, I suspect that the Democrats would do better if they hit these issues head on than avoided them. Funny how that has actually worked with the Gay rights issues – and I say that as someone who in 2004 was against pushing gay rights because we had more important battles to win (I was wrong).
I suppose that means I can’t paint swastikas on Republican campaign and candidates’ signs and windows.
Does this mean that Powell actually has a shot at winning?
I think it’s okay to quote the word, Steve, but never okay to use it as an epithet.
