The new Franklin & Marshall College Poll shows that people hate Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett and would like to see him tarred and feathered. They also favor universal background checks for gun purchases (94%), banning high-capacity magazines (61%), banning assault weapons (61%), and limiting handgun purchases to one per month (61%).
Now, Pennsylvania is correctly viewed as a blue state, but it is a very culturally conservative state with a huge hunting population. It is not some liberal outlier where people are not familiar with firearms. It’s true that the numbers are skewed a bit by Philadelphia and it suburbs, but I don’t think the gun numbers would be much different in a state like Missouri.
In any case, I’m convinced that Corbett will lose his bid for reelection completely irrespective of his opponent. He’s proven that he’s a loser. I can’t wait for election day.
“and would like to see him tarred and feathered”
A great American tradition. To paraphrase “Robocop”, I’d pay a dollar to watch that.
Ritual humiliation of unpopular elected officials is an important political tradition that should be encouraged .
If properly done, it’s called ὀστρακισμός.
very nice. [οστσραφορια?]
How about the history? Quaker, large Mennonite population?
and also,
hah, hah! take that, Jerry Sandusky
I doubt that they poll the Amish.
Lowest approval percentage for a Pennsylvania Governor in the history of the poll, and this poll was performed in the days before Corbett rejected the Medicaid expansion.
Booman, you can do it!!! Get this pollster, or PPP, or somebody to run a reputable poll of the comparative approval levels of Governor Corbett and gonorrhea. Time to test your hypothosis. How can we help?
someone create a website!
I don’t have much faith in the voters of PA – after all, they re-elected Ricky Santorum. Plus, their turnout numbers in any non-Presidential voting year are abysmal.
Corbett will have unlimited campaign financing from the fracking companies (the ones who paid his way to the AG spot, which he used as a springboard to the Gov’s mansion – as well as the job where he made the first name for himself by prosecuted any of his potential political foes), as well as outside GOP money men with deep pockets.
What’s needed is some top-shelf state Dem to come out and run against him. They’ll have to be high-profile enough for people to want to come out and vote for them, plus be able to raise the cash it will take to beat Corbett. And the group that is expressing an interest on the D side don’t exactly fit this bill.
Where the hell were these people who hate him when he won that election?
Don’t tell me they’re surprised he’s governed like a Republican!
And why not limit handgun purchases to 1 per customer rather than 1 per month?
