Yeah, remind me again which political party doesn’t believe in intrusive government. I guess if we are talking guns it’s one thing, but when it comes to everything else involving your personal life, it seems the Republican Party luvs it some Big Guvmint intervention. Just take a gander at this bill currently being proposed by North Carolina Republicans that would mandate no divorce could become final until two years after the initial complaint had been filed. In short, married couples wanting a divorce, for whatever reason, would have their lives put on hold for two years. But that is not all, not by a long shot, under the proposed “Healthy Marriage Act.”

During that time, the couple would have to complete courses on improving their communications skills and conflict resolution.

If the couple has children, they would have to take at least a four-hour class on the impact of divorce on children.

Of course, North Carolinians already are subject to a one year waiting period before their divorces become final, so what’s one more year added to that with some mandatory counseling, eh? I mean, let’s say you have a spouse who is abusive and has threatened your life. Who wouldn’t want to spend hours in counseling with such a person to improve your relationship? Beats me. Obviously the Republican sponsors of this bill think the same way.
