I think I may never stop laughing if Marco Rubio votes against his own immigration bill. I can’t think of a way for him to make himself more ridiculous.

I THINK Zandar is right: the Village will just blame Obama.
Also, too: Tip and the Gipper had drinks together!
Remember when McConnell filibustered his own bill?
Right. Because LEADERSHIP.
I could imagine his intent being to appear to initially fight for immigration in order to please his country club donors. And then to shit all over it in the end in order to appease the crazy base.
His own delusional plan to try and have it both ways.
Does anybody understand what he’s talking about, if anything? He wants to “strengthen the border security parts of this bill so that they’re stronger, so that they don’t give overwhelming discretion to the Department of Homeland Security.”
Well, strengthening those parts of the bill would most likely make them stronger. No argument there. But who would he transfer “discretion” to, since the Border Patrol, ICE, and Customs and Border Protection are all under DHS? What “border security” What border security amendments could possibly weaken the agency’s “discretion”?
Rubio doesn’t seem to have a clue WTF he’s talking about. I think this kind of incoherence is even scarier than the wingnut ideology. (Though the two are, at root, the same thing.)
I do not think he’s a particularly smart or savvy pol. Way overrated. He doesn’t know what he’s talking about but his main problem is he’s not good enough to hide it.
Steve Benen has a post up about this today. What the Republicans are demanding is insane. Here’s what John Cornyn wants:
But otherwise he believe in a small, limited government.
In other words, make people who are already here pay for the actions of others, and enforce a police state on the democratic-leaning border towns. Also, illegal Canadians are apparently fine (yes, there are illegal Canadians. I’ve known one.)
He was for it before he was against it. Oh, sorry. That was our Secretary of State.
Our Secretary of State changed his position when the bill changed. He supported a version that was paid for, and opposed an amended version that removed the funding.
Rubio is voting against the bill he drafted, because of provisions he wrote into it.
He’s talking about Kerry & Iraq. I thought that was obvious.
No.
