I guess I recognize Shannon Richardson from watching The Walking Dead. The kids are obsessed with that show (not the little one), so I’ve been forced to watch it. It’s too violent for my tastes, but I get the appeal. I’m curious whether Ms. Richardson really is a gun nut who thinks Obama is a Muslim who ruined the economy, or if she just wrote those things to frame her husband. In other words, is she crazy or is she bug-eyed nuts?
You have to have a screw loose to start mailing ricin to people, but I’m convinced that it’s even crazier to hold these weird Tea Party beliefs.
What do you think?
“…is she crazy or is she bug-eyed nuts?”
When I read a question like that, I always go lean towards the ‘bug-eyed nuts’ side.
It’s crazy enough to send ricin through the mail, and hope, or expect, to not get caught.
It’s another thing to make it yourself.
I think making it yourself, as opposed to just mailing a deadly poison, puts her clearly in the “bug-eyed nuts” camp.
What I hate about this is how it ruined the time honored American tradition of public officials stuffing all the pieces of mail they get into their mouths.
Here in Chicago, they stuff them in their wallets.
Will stuff like this, among other things, put to bed the lie that Hollywood is one big DFH commune? I seriously doubt it.
If Charleton Heston didn’t do it, nothing will.
Well, we can’t really be sure about this case – there probably is a plausible frame-the-husband angle to this, especially if this is the kind of shit her husbands rants on about in private.
But amongst those infected with wingnutia psychosis there seems to be a point-of-no-return aspect. At some point they go beyond just watching Fox and checking Drudge and really diving into places like WorldNetDaily. At that point the Gullibility Level – already naturally at a dangerous level just due to being Republicans – goes over the top and they automatically believe the entire package.
There are two really scary aspects of this. First, due to the unprecedented scale of the wingnut media there is now a critical mass of as much as a third of the country that fully buys into this shit. Second, many of the key memes of the wingnut movement are fully into the mainstream – like “spending and taxes exploded under Obama” and “half of people don’t pay taxes”.
There is no solution within the context of the status quo.
It depends what you mean by “crazy.” The sense in which the word is usually used is “detached from reality,” in which case, yeah, the Tea Party beliefs are worse. But to mail a poison that might kill someone, and to try to frame your spouse for such an act, are both acts that require a pretty high level of sociopathy. That’s a serious mental illness – but it’s not one that affects cognitive abilities. It just means you don’t give a shit about your impact on others.
Being a sociopath is a lot more socially acceptable in our culture. Not if you’re violent about it, of course – but both our business world and our politics tend to reward sociopaths who play the game well. It’s an apples to oranges comparison, and a lot of wingnuts – especially glibertarians – suffer from both. But sociopaths do more damage, hands down.
She is a zombie right? Doesn’t that mean someone ate her brain or she is brain dead or something? Sorry bro, I haven’t watched the show and somehow parented well enough that my kids are bored by it (or I get zero credit for that at all) 🙂
They are all obsessed with NHL playoffs, which are the best in sport but another kind of sickness.
What I don’t get is how did she expect this to stick on her husband unless there was other evidence he might do this? That is some kinda stupid spousal hate.
the two motives are not mutually exclusive. it may have been an attempt to kill two birds with one stone.
