Just in case anyone here didn’t bother to check out Russell Brand on “Morning Joe” — and I almost didn’t — it belongs in the “must see” category. It’s one part George Carlin, one part Groucho Marx, and one part too sexy dude.
He politely sliced, diced, and fileted the three hosts without breaking a sweat.
Russell Brand on Margaret Thatcher I Always Felt Sorry For Her Kids.
“Thanks for your casual objectification.”
Can’t recall ever seeing or hearing a guest on a show take full command and control of the situation and leave the hosts blubbering. While unscripted, Brand gets who TV talking head are and that gives him an advantage over them:
Still well played. All their fancy college degrees and professional TV experience were no match for the ex-junkie comedian.
Food for thought there.
A rare level of consciousness.
This too is good:
But it’s the theme of his article that is sophisticated. And seems to be eluded all the “best and brightest” these days.
I don’t think people realize how intelligent Russell Brand is. He’s written a few op-eds, including about the London riots. He also doesn’t refer to himself as an ex-addict, despite being sober for years.
I think Mika was turned on by him and his sexiness, and just flat out flustered because of it; that, plus being gobsmacked at his confidence and ability to take over. Awesome.
It’s easily overlooked in his sort of manic comedy style and his rather sweet demeanor when he appeared on The View or Ellen shows. Personally found him edgier in his Morning Joe appearance than in his comedy shticks. Reminds me of how Carlin got better as he matured.
Point taken — but how many years he’s been sober or drug free seems always to be included in his TV interviews.
His charisma definitely intimidated Mika and made her feel foolish for having been unprepared. Might be an error to conclude that she was turned on.
Oh no it wasn’t like a point to be made, just something that I’ve kept with me from reading his op-eds about drugs. I just found it interesting that he’s been sober for god knows how many years from dope, coke, and alcohol yet still considers himself an addict.
Might be, but I know I’d be turned on lol; the shaft-grabbing was pretty epic.
Thought I saw where he goes to AA and NA — “I’m John and I’m an alcoholic” is part of the program.
Oh, part of Brand’s charm is that it’s sexually tinged. That can unnerve some women, particularly in a public setting as that show was, if she doesn’t get that it’s playful and not sexual and let’s him know that she knows.
