Not a remarkable speech, Obama refers more to the past than to the future. Snowden and NSA snooping are the famous headlines for the local papers and news broadcasts. On security of President Obama, a comparison was made to JFK and the memorable visit of President Reagan. Both JFK and Reagan were protected looking from the East side (GDR), Obama had bulletproof glass from both the West and the East side. The people of a united Germany failed to understand this security fear, perhaps both GCHQ and NSA can tell us more after 25 years.

NY Times: Reception for Obama Is More Sober Than in 2008

According with the New York Times, one of the newspapers of Germany make a political point, which ran a headline in English, using a photo of the American prison at Guantanamo Bay, saying, “Mr. Obama, Open this gate”. Obama is the subject of intense criticism over NSA program, which included the surveillance of German citizens.

Also, this month pays tribute to John F. Kennedy, who told a huge crowd in Berlin, “Ich bin ein Berliner”, which means “I am a Berliner”, during the Cold War. The speech was in June 26 of 1963, and that speech gave hope and comfort to many who were divided by the Wall.
