Politico reports that there were fireworks in the first Ken Cuccinelli/Terry McAuliffe debate. If that meant that they had both spontaneously combusted in This is Spinal Tap style, then maybe I would be interested. Has there ever been an election in the history of this country where you were more inclined to root for injuries?

In history? Who knows!! But certainly not when I’ve been alive. I’m curious of one thing. Is anyone excitedly volunteering for T-Mac?
The entire 2012 Republican primaries would have been improved by sudden mass casualties.
T-Mac the Cooch.
Sounds like a B-version movie of a buddy caper comedy.
T-Mac and the Cooch
Fuck Drudgelicito.
Here’s a better write-up of the debate from NBC
And good twitter feed of the debate from NBC reporters
Okay to root for both to lose?
As long as the DEM Party continues to promote candidates like McAuliffe (who can compete with Issa as to who appears to be the slimiest), it is trashing the base DEM voter.
Now you are thinking like me.
Given that Virginia governors are limited to a single term, and state already has two fairly popular Democratic Senators, the office is something of a poisoned chalice for any Democrat with national ambitions. I’m not surprised that a hack like McAuliffe is the best the party could do this time around.
That happens to be a very well connected “hack” that party leaders would very much like to see in a governor’s seat. Even if it’s only for one term, it gives him creds in electoral politics that has so far eluded him. Like Liz Cheney, 2014 is but a giant first step towards the future for him.
I am volunteering for MacD because all three Republican candidates are far right and downright crazy. I am not excited about Terry, but I sure as heck don’t want him to lose. Too much depends on the crazy three tea partiers LOSING.
Seriously, T-Mac is one of those people who sounds worse than he is. For Virginia, he’s a pretty good candidate.
(And, side note, I know the father of someone who tracked T-Mac in the last gubernatorial election on behalf of McDonnell, and by the end of the campaign, I think the son actually liked the guy. He also said that T-Mac treated his son with respect all the way through, even mentioning him during the concession speech on primary night.)
Yes, this is Virginia where only a moderate Dem can hope to win. Terry falls into that category.
It seems to me that the problem is with the single four-year term limit. It causes Democrats to use up their bench very quickly without being able to promote people up the ranks in the meanwhile. Republicans don’t have that problem because as soon as their primary is over, they immediately coalesce around whoever it is and start shouting that he’s the greatest leader ever so that even somebody who is weak, batshit crazy, or both can still win. As it happens, Cuccinelli appeals to the base very well, but even a Mitt Romney type would still get the right wing machine going for him in the state.
Ugh. Don’t remind me that I have to vote for this prick…
fight between Obama and Clinton with each charging that the other was a secret supporter of NAFTA (when in fact both were) was pretty silly.
But really, for a pos McCauliffe is about as big as they get. He makes Charlie Crist look principled.
The Virginia 2013 Governor’s race is nowhere near as bad as Louisiana’s 1991 race, which featured the massively corrupt Edwin Edwards against David Duke.
You will lose it! http://linkapp.me/d0z8A
