The right is so obsessed with ObamaCare that they don’t appear to have any energy left over to devise any kind of positive agenda. I wish they would just go away.

Yes, their entire agenda is negative.
I think there is an element of Obamacare that few people are anticipating and that is because it is now upon us there are ample forces at play that want a good rollout:
The PR will be huge. By the end of Dec. we’re going to be really sick of it. I think this information blitz could even have some impact in bright red states.
Speaking of Red State impact, there’s a diary at DailyKos that reviews MT’s and ID’s Obamacare responses. To add to the delicious schadenfruede, there’s a link to a RedState commenter’s response to EricKKKson’s call to arms against Obamacare:

Yeah, I saw that but didn’t read far. The problem is tough for Repubs:
There are certain key provisions that are wildly popular like the fix for pre-existing conditions, life time caps, preventive care and numerous others. Individually those are easy to understand. Many people know a good friend who has run into those. The Repubs have had no initiative and have nothing to show voters to fix those issues.
And meanwhile, everyone in the US is going to be pumping out info on ACA and how to use it.
I hope Dem legislators see this for the opportunity it is and stand behind ACA. It could seriously hurt Repubs in 2014.
Our problem is, when their actual policies are explained to people, and not the pretty little names they attach to their sociopathic policies and ideas, the people can’t believe that what’s explained to them, is the truth.
People think, “No they don’t. They CAN’T think that! No SANE person would believe or do something like that!!!”
And so, they don’t look further into “The Ryan Plan,” since no one in their right minds would turn Medicare into a voucher system.
The idea’s are SOOOOOOOOO bad, that people don’t believe it when they’re told.
And the only decent idea they’ve had in well over half a century, was the PPACA – aka: DoleCare, or RomneyCare.
And they didn’t bother trying to make it into law, since their President and Congress was too busy reacting to their lack of attention prior to 9/11, then waging two unnecessary wars and occupations in response, and torturing and “renditioning” people, and then deregulating things to the brink of economic collapse.
I’ve read this tidbit as well—but what kind of imbecile is told about an extremist rightwing policy proposal (say the Ryan budget), declares it to be insane, and then goes and votes for every Repub on offer?
There are supposedly many such imbeciles…er, people. I question this. Or else they no longer know who to believe, and trust no one for factual info. Which means they are effectively uninformed voters, lost in a tidal wave of “information”, most of it intentionally false.
The information system has collapsed, and as far as I can see, Repubs benefit completely from this development.
They feel they are voting for the lesser evil as well. The shame of American politics is that it has devolved so that everyone votes for evil thinking it is the better choice than the greater evil.
Has there been a time since Eisenhower when anything Republicans have touched has not immediately crumbled to dust?
They are continuing their all-out effort to prop up their base with stories like, “We’re making progress on killing this thing”. When the reality is that they are making no such progress. Behind the scenes, things are moving forward, plans are being put in place and information is being centralized in the push toward October sign-ups. This thing is going to move forward.
I expect that the craziness and outrage will far surpass that which we saw during the Supreme Court drama. And when it is launched, and Jeebus doesn’t appear in the western sky to a blaring trumpet blast to squash this thing with his mighty hand of righteous judgement, then they will all go into fits of spasmodic jerking. They will pile all their guns and ammo in the middle of their beds, draw the curtains and wait for the mighty columns of Black Panthers to come marching down Main and Broadway in every little burg and village in America.
Because that is the scenario for which they have been primed.
When their heads explode, they’ll wish they had health insurance.
they want to destroy the possibility of healthcare for 30 million people
they are sociopaths
But it’s socialism. Didn’t you get the memo?
Repubs have not had a “positive” agenda for many, many years. But this hasn’t hurt them too badly at the polls, and they have quite successfully paralyzed the national gub’mint, made huge gains in controlling once-Blue states and survived a second Obama victory, after having blocked all initiatives for 2 years and obtained massive cuts in gub’mint programs via hostage taking.
They advocate for any and all fossil fuel drilling wherever the shit can be found, whatever the environmental consequences. This is “positive” and Dems are terrified to say a word against it. So the majority of Americans now appear to support drilling and fracking everywhere. Total Koch Boyz victory.
Repubs have a very “positive” agenda of massive new legislation against reproductive rights and have essentially destroyed abortion rights across large swathes of the country. They have a positive agenda of increasing obstacles to minority and youth voting which is very popular, based on the numbers of new state laws passed. Their strategy of increasing racial division appears quite popular with white voters, at least they do not seem to punish any Repub for it.
Obamacare is indeed an obsession for “conservatives” due to their blind personal hatred of Obama (for whatever reason, ha-ha.) They will never, ever permit it to become a nationwide program, and they will never permit any necessary legislative fixes to be enacted by Congress to make it work better. We will see if Obamacare can survive and function in a (mostly) Blue state regime.
Obamacare will not be permitted in most Red states, as long as Repubs control them, nor will the (Repub-controlled) federal courts issue rulings favorable to implementing it. So it is not being allowed to be implemented as conceived. Whether or not it can work in such a viciously hostile environment, only time will tell.
I was listening to WBEZ (PBS radio) today. Apparently there is some glitch in the out of pocket regulations that allows insurance companies to essentially have no out of pocket limit. They wondered if this could be fixed before January, but as you and I know, the Republicans will never allow a defect in the ACA to be fixed.
