It captures everything I love about September: the yellowing green of the trees, the way the light seems to be winding down and more dappled by the day…
I’m sorry I’ve been completely absent from the cafe. I hope everyone here is doing well. The last month here has been crazy in the worst kind of way, and without getting specific, if anyone has any good wishes, thoughts of love and healing, or prayers they want to send in the general direction of the cabin inhabitants, they would be much appreciated.
I’ll try to stop in with my morning coffee (or tea, have you heard of David’s Teas? It’s my new obsession) on a regular basis. 🙂
Just got a taste of what’s been going on from Boo’s tales of woe. I may have little more than empathy to offer at the moment – really wish that had some sort of tangible value in this society. Hang in there.
Musical scholars will wince at including a pop musician in the mix, but from the way my ears hear, Brian Eno’s ambient work is at least a close relative of minimalism:
“Music For Airports” is one of my all-time favorite albums. Enjoy this first track. If you’re new to Eno’s work, and dig this, seek out the rest of his extensive back catalog.
I’d been wondering why my mood had darkened a bit as of late. I suppose certain anniversaries tend to do that, even when I am not consciously aware that, indeed, the time had come once more. Mourning is a long-term process. I really believe it never truly ends, but merely transforms with the passage of years.
This marks seven years since Ductape Fatwa went missing – given his struggles with diabetes, I have simply assumed he passed away. I did drop a few words at The Great Pink Satan for those so inclined.
I remember Ductape well. I also remember some very good heated arguments on the front page. Although I never joined in any of the arguments, Ductape was always very kind to me and I liked him. Thanks for bringing back a memory of someone I still wish were here.
He certainly knew how to generate controversy, but for those who were willing to give him a chance, he had a big heart and a heck of a sense of humor. Oh, and he did have a talent for bringing people together who might not have had much in common otherwise – takes a certain charisma to pull that off. I’ll always carry pleasant memories. Took a while, but I’ve even taken a fair amount of his guide to happy enemy blogging to heart. 🙂
I would have loved to have read his observations on the Arab Spring, Occupy, and all these newfangled social media that sprang up in the intervening years. To imagine…
I’m well into middle age and have yet to figure out how to drive a stick shift. That is a forgivable sin of omission, unless of course, the only vehicles available are ones with manual transmissions. 🙂
Same as ID, I don’t know how to drive one either. Interestingly enough, I have a friend who specifically buys manual transmission cars so that her husband can’t drive them. (He is a without the requisite stick knowledge as well.)

We had a lovely weekend here, so sending some nice weather on to you out east along with warm thoughts and virtual (((hugs))).

Empathy for the unspoken problems is worth a lot. 🙂
I hope that things get better, cg.
I hope things get better soon. Good vibes coming your way from our little house in the woods to yours.

On my way to the office for the day…catch you all later this morning, maybe?
Have a good day!
Hang in there, dear ones. All kinds of good wishes are coming your way from every direction.
Techno Tuesday is running a little late. Had a few projects to finish first. Here is some early Aphex Twin (“We Are The Music Makers”):
And yes, we are the dreamers of dreams.

I like the glow on that one with the hump looming in the distance. 🙂
It’s a gorgeous morning here for the man’s birthday. Two fours, as Finny calls it. 🙂
Lovely picture Andi.
CG I’m sending all the good thoughts I can, wish it could be more and happy two fours to the man!
Thanks! Good thoughts are coming right back your way. 🙂
Good morning!
Any body read Political Animal this morning?
In other news, it’s a gorgeous day here today. Happy to be working from home with the windows open. 🙂
Oh, and did I mention we’re waiting to hear from CBtE who is finally (at 21) taking his driver’s test this am? 🙂
I hope that he did well.
He was delaying telling us in an effort to fake us out and trick us into thinking he failed (interestingly, CBtY tried this trick unsuccessfully too).
Now if only he knew how to drive a stick shift.

You have hit upon the key point at our house. All stick, all the time.
We may fold on that rule for this child.

Given Madame’s disability, it is by necessity all automatic, all the time.
21!!!! How the hell did that happen?
Lesson for me: if I want to pretend that time isn’t streaking by, don’t hang around a site for years and years. 😉
Geezerhood is creeping up on us.
Heh – my youngest turned 40 back in Feb.
I got to briefly peruse Boo’s contribution there. Looks like he is off to a good start.
He’s off to a fine start!
Here’s an obscurity for you that consists of a veritable who’s who of free/avant jazz internationally around the early 1970s:
Got to say ~ Blue Man Group rocks! I really love living near campus.
I love their show. Glad you got to see it.

This calls for a new cafe. 🙂
